Who is Garrett McNamara?
Garrett “GMAC” McNamara, born on August 10, 1967, is a world-famous American big wave surfer who presently holds the world record for the longest wave ever ridden. In the inaugural season of 100 Foot Wave, he accomplished the impossible. McNamara entered the Guinness World Records in November 2011 after surfing on a 78-foot (24-meter) wave at Praia do Norte, Nazaré, Portugal. He had broken the previous world record by more than a foot, but he was only getting started. He kept looking for a larger wave. In January 2013, McNamara stunned the world by breaking his own unattainable world record by riding a 100-foot (30-meter) wave.
This accomplishment was also accomplished at Nazaré, Portugal. McNamara is also noted for successfully riding a massive wave at Jaws, Hawaii, and for being the first person to ride a wave generated by glaciers calving. McNamara is married to Nicole, an environmental sciences teacher. They were both married to separate people when they met for the first time. They have three children: Barrel, Theia Love Nazaré, and Nazaré. Celeste Rose and Strawberry Lucy from Fe do Mar.
