A 104-year-old Chicago woman died Monday morning just days after jumping out of a plane and breaking the world record for the oldest skydiver.
Brave 100-year-old Dorothy Hoffner lived “a happy life, a good life,” said a spokesperson for Skydive Chicago & the US Parachute Association, which shared news of her death with the Chicago Sun-Times, in a statement.
The thrill seeker’s cause of death was not immediately released.
Hoffner became the oldest person to parachute out of an airplane on Oct. 1, when he safely landed a 13,500-foot tandem jump at the Chicago Skydive Airport in Ottawa, Illinois outside of Chicago.
“Age is just a number,” Hoffner told the crowd after setting his seven-minute jump record.
She broke the previous record set in 2022 by 103-year-old Swedish woman Linnéa Ingegärd. Skydive Chicago is working with Guinness to make it official.

Hoffner is no novice, having made his first skydive a few years ago at the age of 100 when he needed a light push to get him out of the plane.
“Skydive is an activity most of us keep safely on our bucket list,” a Skydive Chicago spokesperson told The Sun-Times. “But Dorothy reminds us that it’s never too late to enjoy a lifetime of fun.”
He was “calm and confident” as the Skyvan plane door opened, more than 2.5 miles above the rural Midwest landscape, witnesses said.

Photos show Hoffner smiling as he and a certified instructor land on a patch of grass.
“Everything was delightful, wonderful, couldn’t have been better,” said Hoffner, who will turn 105 in December.
Hoffner told reporters after his final jump he was thinking of asking his 109-year-old neighbor to join him on his next descent, according to the newspaper.
He said he wanted to go on a hot air balloon ride next.
