A Florida boy just 14 years old has been arrested on gun charges in connection with a mass shooting that killed two people – including another teenager of the same age – and injured 16 others, police said.
Thursday’s arrest in Tampa was the second tied to the Oct. 29 massacre during a Halloween celebration in Tampa’s Ybor City that killed Harrison Boonstoppel, 20, and a 14-year-old boy identified by his father as Elijah Wilson.
The teenager – who has not been identified due to his age – was busted on charges of being a minor in possession of a firearm while wearing a mask and carrying a concealed firearm.
“There is no reasonable explanation for a 14-year-old to have a firearm,” Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw said in a press conference.
“I am extremely proud of the hard work our officers and detectives continue to focus on this investigation, which has led to another important arrest in the case.”
Police earlier said at least two people opened fire during an early morning brawl in a popular area where bars and restaurants had just closed.

In addition to the two killed, 16 others – ranging in age from 18 to 27 – were injured. Most have been treated and released from the hospital, Bay News 9 reported.
Tyrell Phillips, 22, was previously arrested on a charge of second-degree murder in the murder. He is being held without bond.

Chief Bercaw hailed the arrest of the teenage suspect as a “great development.”
“And this is a step forward in this case, and it shows that we will take swift and immediate action,” added Tampa’s top cop.

Police are still looking for seven “persons of interest” seen in surveillance video taken at the scene.
“You won’t get away with it,” Bercaw warned in a message to offenders. “It’s unacceptable, and we’re here to take swift action.”
