A Florida day care center has come under fire after a 2-year-old black girl was photographed being handcuffed and fingerprinted by a white child pretending to be a police officer as part of a Rosa Parks re-enactment.
The NAACP is calling on the state government to investigate the Building Brain Academy in Saint Cloud, where the child was “subjected to disturbing simulated acts, in which he was handcuffed and fingerprinted by his white peers.”
The girl’s parents told Fox 35 they learned about the incident when the image was sent to them on the school’s app.
“Her hands were holding her back like she was being held,” the couple told the outlet of their daughter, who they believe is the only black child at the daycare.
“Then the next image is his hands on the table as if he’s being ordered,” added the parent, who declined to be identified.
“Just the look on his face, it was horrible.”

“I was just like, ‘There’s no way they’re doing this in a 2-year-old classroom,'” the girl’s father told the outlet. “It was our daughter who was held back by another child wearing a police jacket,” he said.
“What I keep in my mind is our daughter’s face.”

The couple quickly pulled their daughter out of the center, where the mother said she spoke to the director.

The NAACP is calling on the Department of Children and Families to investigate.
“We teach this lesson not to celebrate the mistakes of others in the past, but to encourage our children to prevent such actions in the future.
“We deeply regret the assumption that our teachers, our leadership, or our administration would in any way choose to make children feel uncomfortable or negatively excluded,” he added.
The day care said it has “advised all our faculty that any deviation from the approved curriculum, no matter how small or unplanned, must first be approved by the school administration. We will continue to ensure our students are exposed to a curriculum that celebrates equality and diversity.”
The couple stated to Fox 35 that “there are many ways to teach the story of Rosa Parks.”
