3 multimillion-dollar homes teetering on edge of California cliff after landslide, footage shows

Three multimillion-dollar mansions appear to be teetering on the edge of a California cliff after a recent landslide eroded the land that was once their backyard, according to video taken by a local news helicopter.

Heavy rain washed away part of the cliff where the luxury residence — estimated to be worth up to $15.9 million — sits, footage captured by an ABC7 helicopter.

A large pile of soil, sand and rock lies at the base of a cliff on the beach below a home located on Scenic Drive in Dana Point.

“I would be worried if I lived in one of those houses,” Dana Point resident Jan Cocchiara told a local news station. “I don’t know if it’s because of all the development that has affected the hill.”

But the city of Dana Point said all three homes were inspected and found not to be in danger, ABC7 reported.

One of the homeowners also told the station that his home is safe and not “red flagged” by the city.

Dana Point City Manager Mike Killebrew also said that access to the beach below where the debris is currently spawning is not an issue.

“No structures are threatened at this point, and it looks like there’s no impact on side beach access,” he told the Orange County Register.

The three adjacent homes are estimated by real estate company Redfin to be worth about $15.9 million, $14.1 million and $12.9 million apiece.
