36-year-old ‘boyfriend’ of teen runaway Alicia Navarro slapped with child porn charges

Alicia Navarro’s runaway ‘boyfriend’ has been charged with child sexual abuse.

Edmund Davis, 36, was arrested Monday and charged with two felony counts of child abuse related to materials found on his cell phone, according to a statement from the Montana Attorney General’s Office.

The cell phone and other items were seized in July after Navarro — who disappeared from her Arizona home in 2019 aged 14 — turned herself in to police in Havre, Montana, and said she wanted to be removed from the missing persons list.

Shortly after interviewing Navarro, now 18, police served a search warrant for an apartment where they learned he lived with Davis.

As he answered the door for officers, Davis was observed attempting to throw away the cell phone and hide it in a trash can.

According to the Attorney General’s statement: “Dozens of images of suspected child sexual abuse material found on the device, confirmed to be Davis’s.”

Phones and other electronic devices seized from the apartment were analyzed by the Glendale Police Department in Arizona.

“Following their protocol, the Glendale Police selected ten images from those found and took them to medical experts.

A search of other devices owned by Davis concluded that they “contain images of infants and young children and other computer-generated or animated content that depicts children being sexualized.”

Shortly after police raided local residents told The Post Davis, a former night stockist at Wal Mart, had been living with Navarro for at least a year.

Davis’ former co-workers said he would refer to Navarro as his nephew and that he was “too young” to go to bars with them, while a neighbor said he called him ‘uncle.’

“They’re using a cover…that’s his nephew,” an employee previously said.

The news of Davis’ arrest shocked those who had worked with Davis.

Davis is being held at the Hill County Detention Center on $1 million bond.

“Very bad. It’s cruel and I can’t believe he did that to all those kids,” a former Walmart co-worker told The Post Tuesday.

“He’s always had a hard shell. He won’t talk much. He would get very defensive when someone talked about it. It’s quite confusing to think that someone can do all that and hide it all and not show any emotion,” they added.

Shortly after the police raid, the couple moved to the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation in Montana in August.

Navarro’s disappearance sparked a nationwide search, even though authorities said he “abandoned his home on purpose” just days before his 15th birthday. Missing persons reports at the time described Navarro as autistic but high functioning.

Her mother, Jessica Nuñez, has launched a campaign to help find her and regularly posts online about her missing daughter.

When he was found he said: “For everyone who has lost a loved one, I want you to use this case as an example,” he said in a Facebook video. “Miracles do exist. Never lose hope and always fight.”

The mother and daughter were reunited via video call but police warned that, as an adult, Navarro was not responsible for returning to Arizona.

On September 20, Nuñez posted on Facebook: “Happy Birthday, I know this message will be seen and I just want to say that I love you and will always be here … We have been in touch for 5 years of the anniversary that is celebrated in the heart like mine always. shall I light a candle for you.”

The first charge against Davis, possessing images of children under 12 engaged in sexual conduct, carries a prison sentence of between 25 and 100 years. A second charge of child abuse can result in a sentence of between four years and life in prison.
