44 dogs saved from ‘deplorable conditions’ in Kentucky home that was advertised as ‘rescue’ — 2 dogs even found frozen to death

Dozens of starving and shivering dogs were rescued from a rancid Kentucky home advertised as a rescue home – with two dogs found frozen to death, according to reports.

Forty-four neglected dogs were found in “deplorable condition” after a tenant in the home was rushed to the hospital for an unexpected medical problem, the nonprofit Animal Rescue (ARC) said in a news release.

Law enforcement contacted the group when they saw dogs trapped in cages or running wild outside homes on Jan. 14, leading to a rescue mission dubbed “Operation Frozen Sadness,” WBKO reported.

Ammonia levels were reported to be so high, and temperatures so cold that special safety equipment was required to help the dogs.

Three dead dogs were found, including two puppies whose bodies were frozen, animal rescuers said, according to WHAS 11.

The dogs showed various signs of neglect, including eye injuries, fur loss, and internal and external parasites, the ARC said. Other issues are anemia, gastrointestinal problems, bite wounds and mats.

“Some of the dogs are emaciated and most of them are underweight,” a spokesperson for the rescue group told the station.

The tenant allegedly carried out a “supposed rescue” out of the house, the organization claimed.

“The alleged tenant-run rescue is a stark reminder that good intentions must be backed up by responsible actions,” said ARC executive director Tim Woodward, according to WHAS 11.

“The suffering of these dogs underscores the ethical responsibility that comes with running an animal rescue; neglect has no place in the field of animal rescue and protection. This is a very sad situation and a lot of suffering has ended.”

The dogs that survived were sent to an actual rescue center in Gallatin, Tennessee, the organization said.
