Half a million people filled the streets of London on Saturday in a pro-Palestinian protest that was one of the city’s largest demonstrations ever, while a group of Americans stalked Joe Biden’s home in Delaware.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters also marched against the Israel-Hamas war in Paris, Brussels, Barcelona, Cape Town, Dublin and more on Saturday, many calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The London protests overlapped with Armistice Day, when Britons commemorated soldiers who died in World War I.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said the timing of the rally was disrespectful, while other ministers called for the march to be cancelled. Home Secretary Suella Braverman called the protesters a “hate march” in a scathing op-ed in The Times of London. Many protesters carried signs saying, “Hey Suella, This is a moving march”
But while some marchers carried signs that read “Free Palestine,” “Stop the Genocide,” and “Stop the Bombing of Gaza,” chants of “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” were also heard. The rallying cry was seen as antisemitic as it implied a call for the annihilation of Israel.
Hundreds of thousands of protesters took to the streets of London, Paris, Brussels, and more on Saturday to call for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
About 80 protesters were arrested by the Met Police.
Before the march, the police also arrested 82 counter-protesters.
Police estimated the crowd at around 300,000, but event organizers claimed the crowd reached 500,000.
Although the largest, the march in London was not the only demonstration on Saturday.
In neighboring Wales, Welsh communists stormed Cardiff holding red flags as they marched for a ceasefire. More than 20,000 attended the Brussels rally, where some protesters demanded that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu be arrested for war crimes.

About 30,000 protesters in Barcelona packed the city center, with many holding large Palestinian flags and signs reading “Free Palestine” and “Stop the Genocide.” A group of about 100 members of the public occupied the city’s railway station on Saturday evening after the rally, which eventually closed the station for several hours.
Paris also saw its fifth consecutive weekend of protests calling for a cease-fire and a “free Palestine.”

Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah saw the demonstration as a condemnation of US and UK support for Israel. “We saw thousands of people in Washington, New York, London and Paris protesting Israel. The only voice that stands out is the US and its ‘follower’ the UK.”

He urged leaders at an Arab-Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia to pressure the US to withdraw its support, the Times of Israel reported.
Thousands also marched Saturday evening in Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and other Israeli cities to demand the terrorist group release 240 hostages taken against their will by Hamas terrorists on Oct. 7.
