8 children abducted from Arkansas foster homes by biological mother, smuggled across the country

Eight children were allegedly kidnapped from their adopted home in Arkansas and smuggled across the country by their birth mother before they were found safe in California Saturday.

Police officers found Trista Fullerton and her six children in a parking lot around 12:30 a.m. Saturday after a concerned citizen called 911 to report a woman “exhibiting strange behavior,” authorities said.

Fullerton, who lost custody of her children, drove through several states with them to avoid authorities and ended up in northern California, Anderson police said.

The mother and children were reportedly in a junk-filled Dodge pickup truck with Arkansas license plates, which was parked in the lot, police said.

Officers responding to a 911 request for a welfare check arrived at the lot and soon identified Fullerton, 36 – realizing he had an active warrant for his arrest in the state of Arkansas. He is wanted for allegedly kidnapping his eight children from their foster home after he lost custody of them, Anderson police said.

Fullerton – who has a criminal history including domestic battery charges – was arrested at the scene and investigators are interviewing him about the whereabouts of his other two children, police said.

The two children were later found at a home in the Cottonwood area with the assistance of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.

Fullerton, of Rogers, Arkansas, was booked into the Shasta County jail on the warrant, Anderson police said.

It is unclear how long Fullerton was with her children following the alleged abduction.

The children were released to Shasta County Child and Family Services so they could be reunited with caregivers in Arkansas.
