Just four hours after lying in bed, an 82-year-old New Mexico woman frantically told police she feared for her life, she was shot and killed by her caretaker, according to police and reports.
The caretaker, Henry Cardana, called officers to the Rio Rancho home urging them to get his parents out of the home, KOAT Action 7 reported.
“He is a hospital hospice patient and he is out of control. I can’t control it anymore. He needs for his own safety, take him out of here,” he said in the audio obtained by Koat 7.
The patient, Juneanne Fannell, later told a 911 operator there were guns in the house – and she felt unsafe.
Officers arrive and chat with Cardana about the weapon, confirming the guard has loaded the weapon.
“I like people with guns,” an officer told him, according to the clip.
They then stood there while the worker chatted with the older woman, video obtained by KOAT showed.

Cardana said something, inaudible on the video, to Juneanne Farrell, who responded, “What did you say?”
“I said you were fine until I killed you,” Cardana replied.
“Alright? He was threatened to do so,” Fannell told officials.
Instead of taking action, the police left after Cardana told them, “Get out of here now. Go away,” recently released footage from the April 5 meeting revealed.
Hours later, Cardana began screaming that he had killed Fannell, according to a neighbor’s 911 call.

Police found Cardana covered in blood when they returned home – and prosecutors charged him with murder.
But Cardana blamed the police for Fannell’s death, body camera footage showed.
“You’re not listening, You’re not helping me at all,” she seemed to wail. “This is all your fault, you caused this.”
