A 9-year-old girl went missing while riding her bike while camping in New York’s Lake Moreau State Park with her family — and police searched the area for 18 hours before issuing an Amber Alert.
Charlotte Sena, of Greenfield, NY, was enjoying a family vacation Saturday afternoon when she decided to make one last lap around their picnic grounds by herself, Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a press conference Sunday.
Sena, the nephew of a local firefighter, left for Loop A on his bike at about 6:15 p.m., to prove he was “one of the big boys,” but he never returned.
Hochul said the girl’s family was upset by the sudden disappearance.
“Families are here to make memories, the kind that will last a lifetime. Instead, it turned into every parent’s nightmare,” said Hochul.

When Sena failed to return within 15 minutes, his family and fellow campers went out to look for him, with police called to the scene at about 6:47 p.m.
The 9-year-old’s bike was found in Loop A, with a 100-person search team of state troopers, special ops, forest rangers, park police and civilian volunteers gathered at the scene.
Since the loss of Sena, NY State Police Lt. Col. Richard Mazzone said his team had been searching the park for 18 hours, with police believing the child was gone.

As of 9:45 a.m. Sunday, police issued an Amber Alert, fearing that Sena may have been abducted while she was alone.
Along with issuing the warning, Mazzone said officials would continue to search for Sena in the area, with aquatic search teams also deployed to check nearby waterways.
“We continue to dedicate all the resources we can to finding Charlotte and bringing her home safely,” Mazzone said.

Sena is described as a white boy with blond hair, standing at 5 feet 1 and weighing 90 pounds. He was last seen wearing a Pokemon shirt with an orange tie, dark blue pants, black Crocs and a gray bike helmet.
Officials described the fourth-grader as a smart and adventurous girl who was recently chosen for her school’s student council.
