A 96-year-old Kentucky man is in custody after he was arrested for allegedly trying to kill his 90-year-old wife to “end her suffering” from dementia before trying to kill herself, police said.
Seymour Taffler, 96, admitted to the murder-suicide plot when police arrived at his Berea home after a call about a possible domestic violence incident was made on Friday.
The couple’s daughter told officers he “snapped at her mother,” Elaine Taffler, WKYT reported.
Police said Taffler was caught standing over his wife in an attempt to restrain her, shocking their daughter when she discovered the scene at their Diana Drive home.
Taffler allegedly told police that he tried to suppress Elaine because neither of them had much longer to live. He also claimed that his wife had told him several times that he was ready to die.
Although non-family members said he was going to kill himself afterward, police said he didn’t appear to have a plan on how to kill himself.

The current situation is still unclear.
Court records show that officials were notified of his dementia, adding that his condition appeared to be worsening.
