A 12-Year-Old Was Nominated for ‘Worst Actor’ At The Razzie Awards

The Razzie Awards strike again! Although the Oscars have announced their nominations, which is very interesting this year, the Razzie Awards do the same thing as every year. However, contrary to the Oscars which remain a much-appreciated despite criticism ceremony, the Razzie Awards seem to be mostly hated because of how poorly they choose their categories.

And this year, people were very angry with them on social media, because the Razzies decided to nominate Ryan Kiera Armstrong for the “Worst Actor” category. What’s the problem? He is only 12 years old, and when we know how embarrassing this ceremony is, It is very disturbing to hear it.

What He Was Nominated For

Directed by Keith Thomas, Firestarter is one of the popular movies of 2022 with Zac Efron as the lead actor along with 12-year-old actress Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Adapted from Stephen King’s novel released in 1984, the story is about Charlie, who can use pyrokinesis with ease. However, he is followed by an organization that wants to capture him to create a weapon from his powers.

The film has been widely criticized for its lack of suspense, and the writing and even lack of horror for a horror film adapted from a Stephen King novel. So there is a real reason why it has been nominated at the famous Razzie Awards. However, is that fair to shame a 12-year-old actor who is not actually responsible for the quality of the film? Of course not! And that’s why people are so angry, and It’s not the first time.

Why People Hate the Razzie Awards

While It could be a little funny in the past, the Razzies don’t make anyone laugh anymore for certain bad decisions that destroy entire careers and lives. And they should learn a lesson because the last time they nominated a kid for the Razzies, it didn’t end well for him.

Do you remember Jake Lloyd? Of course, fans of the Star Wars franchise would say yes, but it was he who played the role of young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. He was nominated for worst actor and won. People would after mock him and It stopped his career at a very young age when he might have had a bright future.

But It didn’t just end his career, it also affected his life a lot and that’s why the Razzie Awards are now considered a problem. Jake Lloyd was bullied at school for his role, and his life became hell very early on. He was traumatized by the cameras and could no longer play in front of them. Recently, he was diagnosed Schizophrenic and placed in a mental hospital. And most people think it’s partly because of the Razzies. Probably not, but one thing is certain, they participated in the bullying of the young actor.

Not Taken Seriously Since A Moment

The Razzie Awards are now hated, but before that, they weren’t taken seriously at all. why? Because for their first ceremony in 1981, they nominated Stanley Kubrick in the ‘Worst Director’ category for… The Shining. Does it really need an explanation? Of course not. Anyone who has seen the film, whether you like it or not, objectively knows that it remains a masterpiece and an example for many cinematographers. Another example of the same category is Brain de Palma nominated for Scarface.

In 2015, to restore a bit of their reputation, they decided to nominate Ben Affleck in a category called ‘Redemption’ to apologize for their critics of him. He was nominated in it for his great roles in ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Argo’. And people on the internet love the initiative, especially Ben Affleck who is a very appreciated actor.

But recently, the Razzie Awards once again became controversial by creating a category just for Bruce Willis to poke fun at. Very bad timing, because the actor’s family announced a few days before Bruce Willis decided to end his career because he has aphasia. And this year, nominating a 12-year-old is, like so many other times, one of the worst ideas the Razzies have ever had. People still wonder today why it still exists. Well, everyone talks about it every year, even if they hate it. And maybe that’s why the Razzie Awards ceremony still exists today. And it fits their sarcasm.
