Vaai and Tominika Taumalolo raised their three children in Auckland, New Zealand, before moving to Townsville. Jason discussed his parents’ efforts in an interview from 2015. They moved from Auckland to Townsville to be with their son. When he was 14, the Cowboys star moved to Auckland and lived with the family of former Cowboy Wayne Ulugia. Vaai and Tominika were initially against sending their son to Townsville but eventually agreed to let him pursue his rugby goals.
The Taumalolo family allowed Jason’s old colleague John Asiata to stay with them in the same way as the Ulugia family. In an interview, John expressed his gratitude to Jason and his family.
