Aalim Hakim is an Indian celebrity hairstylist known for styling the hair of actors and actresses in many films and commercials. He is one of the most popular hairdressers in India. He owns the Aalim salon chain owned by Hakim.

Aalim Hakim was born on Sunday, 25 August 1974 (age 39 years; in 2022) at Kammu Jaffer Hospital in Bhendi Bazaar area of Mumbai City, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Virgo. He began learning the nuances of barbering at the age of 9 after his father’s death and used to cut hair in his father’s shop under the supervision of his mother. He later attended Mithibai College, Mumbai, and during his first year in college, he decided that he wanted to become a barber and carry on his father’s legacy and make it a brand. He used to cut his friends’ hair in his early years as a barber and began to gain recognition.

Parents & Siblings
His father, Hakim Kairanvi, is a very popular hairdresser. His father hails from Kairana, Shamli, Uttar Pradesh and used to work as a hairdresser at Salon Madame Jacques at The Taj Hotel in Mumbai and later started his own hairdressing shop at his home in Bhendi Bazaar, Mumbai. His father cut the hair of popular actors and celebrities such as Amitabh Bachchan, Sunil Dutt, Mohammad Ali, and Bruce Lee. His father died on March 28, 1984 at the age of 39.

She married Shano Jasbir Singh Hanspal on 27 December 2013. She is a Sikh. They dated for a while before getting married. The couple have two sons named Star and Sky.

He follows Islam. He said in an interview in 2018 that he follows his religion through his own practice and no one should force anyone to follow any religious practice. He revealed that during the birth registration of his son Sky, he mentioned Sky’s religion as humanity. He also said that his wife Shano was a Sikh, and he never asked her about her religion.

Starting Aalim Hakim
Aalim was inspired by his father’s vision and heart of gold, and he started a salon under the name Aalim Hakim on his balcony at the age of 16. The salon has a fan, basin, and salon chairs. His college friends were actors Vivek Oberoi and Shreyas Talpade, music director duo Sajid–Wajid, and choreographer Bosco Martis, whom he once brought home to cut their hair.

He used to cut his friends’ hair for free and experimented with different hairstyles which became popular among others. After a few days, he decided to charge for his service, and he fixed the price of haircut at Rs 20 initially, and when he added Shampoo to the service, he increased the price to Rs 30 for haircut with shampoo. He then took the AC (Air Conditioner) for rent and doubled the rate. He started making profit in his work and bought an AC.

A girl named Binafer, who used to work at L’Oréal, saw her talent and sent her to Paris, France to learn more about the craft of hair cutting. He also trained under a barber named Butrum in Austria. He trained under different barbers, which boosted his confidence and the desire to make Aakim Hakim a big brand.

After gaining recognition, she started hiring people who wanted to become hairdressers and opened many shops in different cities across India and one branch in Dubai as well.

He said in an interview that he never took any loan to set up any branch. He also revealed that he owns a Mumbai branch and gives branches in other cities as franchises. Hakim’s Aalim offers Straightening and Retexturing Treatments, hair coloring services in addition to cutting and styling. Most of its branches are designed with a Bohemian influence and are considered luxury salons.

After establishing three salons in Mumbai, Aalim Hakim intends to start his academy to teach the basics of hair cutting and styling and later teach many advanced courses to novice and professional barbers. He said in an interview that he has taught more than 1 lakh barbers at his academy in Versova, Mumbai. There are different courses that have different sets of qualification standards depending on the experience of the student (barber).

His preferred brands of scissors and shavers are Jaguar and Joewell, and he prefers a 5-inch length for regular haircuts. She prefers Matt products and Elnett hairspray. She uses different brushes for different uses such as a paddle brush for blow drying, a round wooden or thermal brush to create body, a vent brush to create puffs and a bow brush to create a sleek style. The comb of choice is a cutting comb for finer cuts and a scissor comb for beard, mustache, sideburns, and nape. She uses a root iron to give a natural look with some straightening, a root curler to add volume to the base, and a blow dryer with the right nozzle and diffuser to remove extra moisture.

Facts/Trivia
- His parents used to call him ‘Goldie,’ his friends called him Limca, and his wife called him Aaloo.
- During her college days, she used to participate in dramas and won many awards for her acting; however, he decided to become a barber.
- He revealed in an interview that he was mocked by some of his college friends when he said that he wanted to be a barber; however, his friends always support him and motivate him to focus on his vision.
- He appeared in an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show in April 2023, where he revealed that he made Prabhas play badminton to see how much his hair bounced so that he could style his hair accordingly for the film Bahubali. He said that he added hair extensions to Prabhas’s hair to give it a bouncy look while riding a horse.

- In 2017, he shaved Sonu Nigam’s head after a fatwa was issued against him and demanded Rs 10 lakhs. He said that Sonu Nigam was not against any religion. He said,
Sonu Nigam did not say anything against Azaan. He is not against any prayer. Sonu is only talking about speakers and not about any religion. If he (Maulvi) has 10 lakh rupees then he should give it to me, I will donate it to some charity.”

- His first film project as a hairstylist was styling Chandrachoor Singh for the film Maachs and Manoj Bajpayee for the film Satya.
- When he started expanding his salon in his home, his family members were angry with him because their space was reduced, and most of his salon took up the space of the house.
