Carter’s admission to treatment comes before his custody hearing for his 9-month-old son, custody of which was earlier awarded to the musician’s mother by a judge. He previously revealed that to provide a solid foundation for their son, he and his fiancee—also the mother of his son—took domestic violence classes for several months.

In a recent interview released on Tuesday, Aaron Carter said that he voluntarily checked into an outpatient treatment center where he involved himself in different activities.

“It’s an abstinence program and I work with individual counselors,” the 34-year-old singer told Sun via video conference while out and about with fiancee Melanie Martin.

She added: “I did group therapy, parenting classes, domestic violence classes, I got certified in CPR, just a lot of different things. It’s just being a parent but it’s actually been really fun and exciting and given me a new chapter in my life. It’s amazing.”

Carter also noted that this is his fifth time in rehab, adding that he signed up primarily to “help with the weed.” “I don’t want to smoke weed anymore, I don’t have to,” he said.

In regards to other concerns that she started using again, she shared that she has not experienced a “relapse” but hopes to address her triggers while in rehab.

The musician told Sun that his ability to maintain composure comes from growing up and being a parent. She also said that her rehab program helped her and her fiance Martin, 30, reconcile after previously going through tough times, including allegations of domestic violence.

Carter revealed that he had destroyed all the marijuana plants he had grown and the associated equipment, as if to show that he was really working on himself.

“I had a medical marijuana license to grow up to 99 plants a year. But I threw away all that equipment, I sold it all, got rid of all my plants and my strains that I grew.”

The singer shared that he did all this on his own choice and not because he was ordered by the Court or the Department of Children and Family Services.

Aaron said, adding that their next court date will be announced this month.

“Being a father is the most important thing to me,” he said. “Just being tamed and civilized and grown up and taking care of my responsibilities.”

Carter also mentioned her plans to marry Martin once the custody dispute is resolved. He also said they could try for a second child to expand their family.

Despite not currently having custody of their child, Martin has shown he still sees and interacts with her by posting several videos and photos of their time together on social media.

Most of the time, she is seen either out and about with the kid or sharing a special bonding moment. It is currently unclear how often Carter has seen his son since he lost custody.
