Aaron Carter’s Friend: He Had ‘Been Gone’ For Some Time Before Death

Aaron Carter was reportedly “gone” long before his death.

His friend and O-Town lead singer, Erik-Michael Estrada, shed light on Carter’s behavior before his death on November 5.

According to the singer, Carter “distanced himself from everyone” before his untimely death.

Estrada recently appeared on the “Behind the Velvet Rope” podcast and explained his friend was “gone” for a long time before November 5th.

“The sad thing is with Aaron is he’s been gone for so long, hasn’t he? Like, even if he’s still here, he’s not there,” Estrada admitted. “He’s distanced himself from everyone, and he’s made it clear that he doesn’t want anything to do with a lot of people who really care about him.”

Estrada and Carter appeared during the boy-band era and became close friends.

However, their friendship began to fray as Carter’s mental health deteriorated and his substance abuse increased.

“But he’s got demons, and he’s got issues that he’s dealing with, and maybe some trauma, and obviously some mental illness,” Estrada shared. “And when you meet someone like that … there’s a moment where you feel so far away from him. And they are sad.”

Estrada Tried Reasoning With Carter, But To No avail

The O-Town singer explained how she once pulled Carter aside and told her that her talent was “much better” than the tweets she put out.

“I remember talking to him in the bathroom stall … and I was like, ‘Dude, your talent is way better than the tweets you put out, and I just want people to appreciate you for your talent and not this tweet,’” Estrada recalled. “And I could just see the distance in his eyes. I wasn’t really talking to the same guy that I had talked to the week before, you know, when we were at some show before.

Carter’s manager and longtime friend, Taylor Helgeson, echoed these sentiments in a TikTok speech directed at Carter’s ex-fiancee, Melanie Martin.

Carter and Martin became engaged in June 2020; however, they broke up and got back together several times until his death in November.

They welcomed their son, Prince Carter, in November 2021. The little one celebrated his first birthday at Chuck-E-Cheese, which Martin documented on Instagram.

“You may know her as ‘Melanie’ some people know her as ‘Miss Melanie Martin.’ I know her as ‘the crazy girl who got kicked off the tour bus that Aaron couldn’t stand, plain and simple,” he continued. “My heart goes out to Prince. I hope he’s well taken care of by Aaron’s family, who I’m very close to. I feel like saying . End of story. Goodbye.”

“Sorry, I lied. I have tried my best. Aaron collapsed on tour? I’m sorry, coming from some Rocky… Rocky… Rocky Balboa s**t who has never met Aaron in person. Aaron collapsed before the tour. Aaron called me to save him from all of you ‘been there, check the oil, Morgan Mickeson’ whatever his name is… they’ve drugged him to the point where he can’t function,” Helgeson continued passionately. “And Melanie you’re involved in that thing, you’re involved in that.”

Helgeson goes on to explain how he took Aaron on a trip to get away from Melanie, but he followed them and “violated the tour” and tried to “extricate yourself from a tour bus going 80 miles an hour like the psychotic that you are.”

Again, Helgeson tried to end his rant against Melanie and all the false reports out there, but he couldn’t help himself.

She urged people to Google information about her and Aaron’s relationship.

“When you want to talk ‘going around’, go back and mention the picture of me and Aaron at eight years old with a healthy face. No king’s face tattoo, looks like King’s Island Boy… when did that happen? When did that happen? When is who coming? When did that happen? It is common sense. It’s common sense,” Helgeson said.

Helgeson has taken the last few weeks to mourn his friend while Martin took to social media shortly after news of Carter’s death broke.

“We haven’t lost our career since Aaron died. I’m good. I lost a friend,” he admitted. “You lose your influence. Think about it.”
