Following the 2022 backstage controversy, Stephen P. New, the attorney who defended Ace Steel and CM Punk following the AEW Brawl Out incident, took part in a public dispute with Chris Jericho on X (formerly known as Twitter). Their argument centered on New’s claim that Ace Steel’s wife was the only person involved in the backstage dispute who did not sign a confidentiality agreement after the incident.
This prompted Jericho to reveal that he had observed the events of the night in question but had not signed any Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Baru referred to the AEW employee handbook, emphasized its “confidentiality provisions,” and claimed to have it. In response, Jericho disputes New’s claims, demanding that he verify the facts.
The facts of the event are unknown, although sources indicate that CM Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks were involved in a violent brawl. As a result, the people involved were suspended, and Steel lost his job. Although the facts are few due to the reclusive nature of the individuals involved, the conflicting statements of Jericho and New suggest different views of what happened.
Jericho goes on to outline his own experience, saying,
“Because I saw EVERYTHING that night…including how Lucy (and her husband and best friend) behaved and what really happened…and because I was in the room the whole time, watching her and everyone else.”
