Affected Tenant Calls Tarek El Moussa’s Condo Project Statement ‘Deceptive’

Tarek El Moussa is facing new criticism over his North Hollywood condo project.

The controversy began with a realtor’s plan to demolish a bungalow complex to make way for a luxury development. A tenant living on the site that would become the city has called out the HGTV star for “deceptive” statements about the project.

Clare Letmon, a current resident of a bungalow slated for demolition in the controversial project, shared her perspective with PEOPLE. As an organizer also on Hartsook Street, he explained the impact of this situation on his family and neighbours.

Responding to El Moussa’s claim that he was “being dragged for false accusations and misconceptions,” Letmon revealed to the publication, “He basically called us liars.”

According to him, direct communication with the reality TV star has not happened since July 14. He also pointed out that they have repeatedly requested personal meetings with those affected, including his neighbor Cathy, a long-term resident of forty years.

The disgruntled tenant claimed that “Brother Vs. Brother” the judge blocked the Hartsook Tenants Association on social media and stopped responding to their emails after July 14th.

He also emphasized that the news of their home being demolished and the urgent need to plan relocation before the $50 million project launches in 2024 is “very triggering for tenants.”

Letmon acknowledged that although El Moussa did not personally distribute eviction notices to his neighbors, the current owner of the property did so to pave the way for his efforts.

In response to concerns raised by Hartsook’s tenants, the “Entertainment Tonight” guest co-host released a statement via his Instagram page last week. In the long note, he wrote in part:

“Please let me explain something about the new project. I am one of the partners of NoHo 138 who is working to purchase the Hartsook property in North Hollywood for redevelopment. Although I am being dragged for false accusations and misconceptions, my intention is to do good, and I hope we can focus on the positive and the facts.”

The “Rock the Block” judge explained, “The notice to the tenant was served by the current owner, not by me or the partners of NoHo 138.” He also explained that the city of Los Angeles mandated the construction of a new structure on the premises, causing the need to remove the existing one under the relevant legal code.

In what he has dubbed his “most significant reversal,” he is set to replace a dilapidated bungalow on Hartsook Street, Los Angeles, with an impressive 138-unit apartment complex with a rooftop pool.
