An Air Canada passenger reportedly boarded a plane at Toronto Pearson International Airport only to jump out of the cabin door before it took off for Dubai.
The unidentified passenger “boarded the plane as usual” but then opened the cabin door instead of taking his seat on the Boeing 747 Monday night, airline officials told Global News.
He fell 20 feet to the tracks and suffered undisclosed injuries, prompting calls to Peel Regional Police and other emergency services.
The incident delayed the departing flight for nearly six hours while crews investigated the scene and treated passengers, according to Air Canada’s website.
A spokesperson for the airline, which continues to investigate the incident, confirmed to Global News that “all of our approved flight and cabin operating procedures were followed.”
A spokesperson for the Greater Toronto Airport Authority also confirmed it was aware of the unusual incident.

“We are working with the airline, Peel Regional Police and Peel EMS to provide support and to determine the immediate needs,” the spokesperson said.
It is unclear whether the passenger was detained because of his unruly behavior or the injuries he may have sustained.
The Post has contacted the police department for more information.
Monday night’s passenger jump marks the second time in less than a week that a pilot’s unusual behavior has delayed an Air Canada flight.

Last Wednesday, a flight was diverted after a 16-year-old boy attacked a family member on the plane, according to Fox News.
Police said other passengers and crew on the flight from Toronto to Calgary were able to restrain the teenager, who was arrested and taken to a hospital in Winnipeg.
The teenager’s unidentified relative was also treated at the scene for “minor physical injuries,” USA Today reported.
After being delayed for about two hours, the flight landed in Calgary about three hours late.
