While talking to the “Good Morning America” host about his upcoming role in “Air,” Marlon Wayans talked about his love of shoes and where it comes from.
“Maybe growing up poor and having to wear my brothers shoes, I just wanted my own shoes and I grew up, and I worked at a shoe store, I worked at US Athletics, I worked at Athletes Foot, I worked at Foot Locker, I was working at Bonnie’s in New York, that’s where I grew up, so when I started making some money, I was like, ‘I don’t want to buy rings and cars and jewelry. I just want shoes’.”

Wayans continued, “My dad wouldn’t let me buy Jordans, he always bought us shoes you buy at a meat market that smell like meat.”
The morning talk show later showed pictures of Wayans’ shoe collection, which he said consisted of 1,100 pairs of shoes. “If anyone wants shoes, holla at your boys,” he said with a laugh.
Ben Affleck Talks ‘Air’

While making the movie, Ben Affleck went to speak with Michael Jordan one-on-one to not only get his blessing but to ask if there was anything specific he wanted to see in the movie to which Jordan said two things — first, he wanted Viola Davis to play his mother in the movie and secondly, he wanted Howard White in the movie.
“I went to talk to Michael because I was lucky enough to run into him a few times,” Affleck said in an interview promoting the film. “I’m not going to act like me and him are friends, you know what I mean? Just like idolizing the man and every other commercial I get a chance to spend time with him. It was very memorable for me. Maybe he forgot about it. So, I had at least enough in to say, ‘Hey, you know, can I come meet you and just run past you?’
He continued, “Because, honestly, listen, from a respect point of view for him, his family, who he is, what he means from a selfish point of view, from a movie, like the stupidest thing in the world would be to make a movie involving… he’s not in , did not appear, however, who called his name and told the part of his story that he resisted.”
The actor continued, “If he says don’t do it, I just won’t do it. That will be it. You know, that’s it. The last conversation. And I’m very, very ready for that to be a consequence of that because I have no reason to think that he would be open to that or that he would welcome it, especially because it’s not a Michael Jordan story where they’ve bought the rights and that kind of thing, which I think might be uncomfortable.”
“However, what I found was that he was very good and actually when I said, ‘Look, this is not historically accurate in the sense that I can’t dot every I and cross every T, what time each phone call was made, this has to be be a fable, a parable, an inspirational story, so I’ll take the liberty of making it an hour, 30, 40 minutes, but I don’t want to violate anything that’s fundamentally important or true to you,” Affleck explained.
“Water” hits theaters on April 5, 2023.
