They should have called the New York Jets.
The New England Patriots are suing airline Eastern Airlines for more than $22 million after the company tried to fix the problem – by allegedly overcharging to fly the team just before the start of the preseason.
The Pats claim they were intentionally suspended when Eastern – which went up in 1991 but whose rights were bought in 2018 by a charter operator – tried to pressure the team to renegotiate travel terms.
“If only [New England Patriots] does not pay Eastern more than provided for in the parties’ agreement, Eastern will simply walk away from the deal, leaving the Patriots without an airline operator on the eve of the upcoming NFL season, and without plans to transport the Patriots’ large contingent of players, coaches and other personnel around country,” the lawsuit alleges for breach of contract.

Timur gambled and lost, says the lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Manhattan Federal Court. The team rejected the higher charges and ended the deal altogether.
The Patriots are asking for $22.8 million, plus additional damages and attorneys’ fees, citing Eastern’s attempt “to extort additional, no-bargain-for-compensation” through a double entendre.
The suit was also brought by 2/25/94, a Massachusetts company that leased two Boeing 767s to Eastern to transport the Pats for six NFL seasons. The deal deflated between East and the side just two seasons before they dropped the ball.

One Mile at a Time called Timur the “world’s weirdest airline” in a blog post last year. The airline has repeatedly announced new routes, only to cancel them afterwards, he said.
Eastern and the Patriots did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
