Career

Entry into Politics

In March 2003, a gangster, Bindu Singh, demanded Rs 25 Lakh ransom from him and his father and threatened to kill them if they did not give him the money. He also told them that he had killed a doctor in Kadam Kuan, Patna who had not given him the ransom money. When Alok approached the gangster-turned-politician Suraj Bhan Singh for help, Singh told him that he should enter politics to clean the system as such gangsters are protected by politicians. This idea inspired Ajay who was active in student politics, and he entered politics in 2003.

Electoral Politics

In 2003, he was denied a political ticket by a political party from his home town, Chainpur, on the basis of caste. In the 2005 Bihar Assembly elections, he contested from the Chainpur Assembly seat on the ticket of Ram Vilas Paswan’s party, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP); however, he came fourth and secured 9683 votes. In the 2010 Bihar Assembly elections, he contested again from the Chainpur Assembly seat on the ticket of Mayawati‘s party, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP); however, he came second and secured 32930 votes.

His stances on different party views did not sit down well with many party leaders, and he faced criticism from different party factions. He resigned from the post of spokesperson on 13 June 2019 by sending a letter to the then-party president. On 14 June 2022, he was ousted from JDU by the then-party president Umesh Singh Kushwaha for anti-party activities.
