Al Roker has recalled the dark experience that almost claimed his life.
In the midst of celebrating his 69th birthday, the longtime journalist and weather reporter delves into the details of the health challenges that rocked his world last year. As she suffered internal bleeding and blood clots that traveled from her legs to her lungs, Roker shared a sweet video from her morning walk, explaining why she felt “beyond grateful” to mark this year’s milestone.

Wearing a green graphic shirt, baseball cap and photochromic glasses, Roker took a brisk walk by the lake to kick off his birthday. Speaking to the camera, the weatherman began:
“This is my 69th birthday orbiting the sun, and after everything I went through at the end of last year, I’m even more grateful to be celebrating this birthday.”

He continued by sending a message of appreciation to everyone who sent good-byes over the past year. He also thanked members of the Start TODAY community and his family, including his wife Deborah, “for getting me out of the hospital,” he said, and his three children – Nick, Leila, and Courtney.
After gushing over her granddaughter — Sky Clara, the star ended her speech by saying, “There’s a lot to be thankful for on this birthday. [I’m] happy to be alive. And thank you.”
To show how much she means to him, Roker made a personal note about the adorable Sky with a special message. In the two photos he shared, the doting grandfather is seen holding the toddler on his lap as he seems to engage him in conversation.
An unperturbed Sky took his gaze away from Roker’s gaze, instead choosing to stare off to the side in the first shot and directly at the camera in the second. For her outfit, she stunned in a red onesie, white socks and a matching hair band.
Underneath the photo, her grandfather simply wrote, “#best birthday present.” The short caption struck a chord with fans of the Xavier High School alum, who took to the comments to post their wishes and thoughts.
“Happy Birthday, Al! You deserve the best! What a precious baby girl!,” one fan exclaimed, and another wrote, “Grandpa looks good on you sir ?.” A third netizen said, “Happy Birthday and you are holding your most precious gift!!!”
A fourth claimed, “There’s nothing better than a smooth baby in your arms,” while a fifth gushed:

Fans also praised Roker when he dropped an image of baby Sky in his arms. While the cute little girl is wearing a yellow onesie, her famous grandfather is wearing his work clothes. He clearly stated in the caption:
“I could look at this face all day. But then, little Sky Clara couldn’t eat, so I ended up having to give her back to Mommy and Daddy.”
Weatherman Excited to Leave Hospital
As mentioned above, “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” one time the star had a serious health scare that resulted in her being hospitalized. As The Blast shared, a blood clot was found in his leg in November 2022, and shortly after, the clot broke into pieces that traveled to his lungs.

Although the incident struck fear into the hearts of his wife and children, the star of the “Sharknado 2: The Second One” cameo survived the ordeal, being released just before Thanksgiving.
Celebrating the milestone, she shared a heartwarming clip of herself showing her screaming with excitement as she walked out of the hospital wearing a black hat, green shirt and dark pants. Rocker typed in the caption:
“This is my version of the Thanksgiving Day parade. Get ready to leave the hospital. Time to blow this taco stand. So much to be #thankful for on #thanksgiving. Leaving the hospital and home for #thanksgivingdinner.”
The co-host of “3rd Hour Today” occasionally later posted a picture of himself grinning from ear to ear while sitting in front of the television set in his kitchen.
“Back home in time to catch a little #macythanksgivingdayparade,” she shared in the caption. Both the posts caught the attention of his fans and many of them expressed their excitement that one of their favorite television personalities is back to himself.
