Johnny Mims of Minor High School was charged with disorderly conduct, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest for encouraging his group of teenagers to continue playing long after the game ended, records show.
Police were trying to clear the Jackson-Olin High School stadium after the minor league team beat the Mustangs 27-0 when they realized both school teams were still playing, the Birmingham Police Department said.
The home team happily left after police asked them to stop playing, but Mims allegedly ordered his students to continue jamming.
The police repeatedly asked Mims to stop so that the students and ticket holders would leave the stadium, but the requests were not heeded.
“During the officer’s interaction with band director Minor, the decision was made to place him in custody,” the department said.

Mims was taken to a hospital for treatment, which police said was protocol, but was released and taken to a Birmingham jail.
He was released on bond.
