Alabama Barker, the 18-year-old daughter of musician Travis Barker and model Shanna Moakler, recently found herself at the center of controversy after sharing a bikini photo on her social media account. The teenage influencer, who has a large following on platforms such as Instagram, has faced accusations of cultural appropriation for her choice of clothing in the image.
Alabama Barker Gets Delirious
In the snap, Barker is pictured in a bikini ensemble featuring bright green and yellow hues, complete with a matching cover-up adorned in black and red. However, this choice of clothing drew criticism from certain individuals, who claimed that Barker was appropriating black culture by wearing colors associated with Rastafarian symbolism.
The reaction to Barker’s photo sparked a debate on social media, with many users voicing their opinions on the matter. Some defended Barker, arguing that the color should not be restricted to certain cultural groups, while others criticized him for using a style with deep cultural significance without acknowledging its historical origins or context.
Mixed Reactions
“Again with cultural provisions. Sad. Stop it,” wrote one, while another stated, “Ok, I wonder when you’re going to cross the line to cosplay as a black woman.”
A third user added, “He really said lemme dress up for black history month.”
A different follower, defending Alabama, commented, “Never this early to office. you are beautiful girly! Don’t listen to the miserable people who comment on your posts. Travis Barker is your dad and Kourtney Kardashian is your stepmom. You are ready to live. Lol.”
Another follower said, “First he didn’t want to be anyone but himself idc idc leave him alone! You all always arrive!!!!!”
‘Jamaican’ Giril Vibes

This is not the first time Barker has faced criticism for his social media posts. In June 2023, she rocked a different bikini set and the same knitted poncho featuring Rastafarian colors.
“Jamaican gyal,” one user commented on a clip of Alabama lip-syncing to R&B artist Bobby V.’s “Slow Down” while wearing an open braided ensemble, accompanied by a Jamaican flag emoji.
“It gives adel [sic],” said another, referring to the controversy surrounding singer Adele’s appearance in 2020 in a Jamaican flag bikini and Bantu knot.
While Alabama dismissed one commenter’s criticism, others continued to express disapproval of her choice of clothing.
Fight Back
One user joked, “Real island gyal,” while another commented, “Someone thinks they’re rasta.”
Adding to the criticism, a third user exclaimed, “BOMBACLATT,” using a Jamaican slang term used to express shock or disdain.
Amidst the backlash, when someone demanded, “Girl drop that,” Alabama emphatically replied, “Make me.”
Page Six reports that Alabama is not the only celebrity to face accusations of cultural appropriation for wearing the colors of the Jamaican flag, a controversy that also involved Adele.
When Gwen Stefani made an appearance in Sean Paul’s music video for “Light My Fire” last year, wearing dreadlocks and a yellow, green and black dress, it sparked a wave of reviews.
