However, most of the cast and crew are expected to return and finish production. He is said to have the “blessing and support” of Matthew Hutchins, the husband of the late Halyna Hutchins.

Matthew Hutchins will also serve as an executive producer on the new film as part of a settlement from a wrongful death lawsuit that was finalized last October. In a statement at the time, Matthew Hutchins said, “We have reached a settlement, subject to court approval, of our wrongful death lawsuit against the producers of Rust, including Alec Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions, LLC. As part of that settlement, our will be rejected.”

“I’m not interested in getting involved in accusations or accusations of blame (on the publisher or Mr. Baldwin),” Hutchins added. “We all believe that Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

“In my own attempt to heal, any decision to return to finish directing the film could only make sense to me if it was done with the involvement of Matt and the Hutchins family,” he continued. “Although it must be bittersweet, I am happy that together, we will now complete what Halyna and I started. All my efforts in this film will be focused on honoring Halyna’s legacy and making her proud. It was a privilege to see this on his behalf.”
