On October 21, 2021, the gun Alec Baldwin was holding exploded. The bullet hit and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The bullet hit him and hospital director Joel Souza, who was standing right behind him.
During Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s trial, Joel Souza testified that he did not believe he had been hit by a real bullet on a movie set. How live ammunition ends up on film sets has been the subject of debate; however, law enforcement officials still do not know how the bullet ended up on the set or in the gun Alec Baldwin was holding.
Alec Baldwin Does Not Accept Plea Agreement

On Friday, according to a new report by Variety, the “Supercell” actor was offered a plea deal last October. However, the plea deal was withdrawn before the actor could accept it and his legal team was warned that prosecutors would pursue charges.
According to court documents, the offer was made on October 5, 2023, and Baldwin has until October 27 to accept it. However, on October 17, prosecutors withdrew the offer and warned that they planned to pursue criminal charges.
In January 2023, both Alec Baldwin and shield Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Charges against the 65-year-old actor were dropped in April 2023 pending further investigation.
Charges against Baldwin were refiled in January 2024 following a report from the FBI that concluded the gun could not have gone off without the trigger being pulled, although Baldwin insisted he had never pulled the trigger in an interview since December 2021. He has entered a not guilty plea.
Baldwin Seeks To Throw Out ‘Rust’ Case

As Variety previously reported, Alec Baldwin is working to have the case against him dismissed. His legal team had argued that the prosecution had “rigged” the case against him, resulting in an unfair trial.
According to the document, before re-filing the charges against him, special prosecutor Kari Morrissey had offered “a plea deal similar to the minor misdemeanor deal that Dave Halls received.”
David Halls is the first assistant director on a Western film set. In January 2023, Halls accepted a plea deal to one count of negligent use of a deadly weapon. He was given six months of unsupervised probation, a $500 fine, 24 hours of community service, and ordered to take a firearms safety class.
During Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s trial, Halls testified that she had retired and confirmed that her testimony was not part of her plea agreement.
Baldwin Legal Team Has Accused Prosecution of Leaking Confidential Information

Baldwin’s legal team has argued that the special prosecutor assigned to the case has tried to “stack the deck” against Alec Baldwin.
They also claimed that the anonymous source who spoke to NBC News reporters about the case was actually lead prosecutor Kari Morrissey.
In November 2023, Baldwin’s attorney Luke Nikas filed a motion to have Morrissey and his co-counsel Jason Lewis removed from the case. Nikas also asked the court to impose a monetary penalty against Morrissey for allegedly leaking confidential information.
On November 15, at a closed hearing, the judge overseeing the case warned the prosecution not to reveal anything about the case to the media, warning that it could taint the potential jury pool. However, the prosecutor was not removed from the case.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed’s “Rust” shield is seeking to plead guilty to involuntary manslaughter. It took a jury of seven women and five men less than three hours to return a guilty verdict in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
His attorney, Jason Bowles, told TMZ that he is having a hard time at the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Facility, where he is currently staying until his sentencing hearing on April 15.
Alec Baldwin’s trial, if it is not dismissed, is scheduled to begin on July 9, 2024.
