Who Are Alex Hall’s Parents?

Alex Hall put on an incredible performance at the 2022 Winter Olympics as a member of Team USA’s freestyle skiers. After his victory, people were fascinated by his upbringing.

Marcus Hall and Elena Hall had Alexander Chauncey Hall as their first child in Fairbanks, Alaska. But, he grew up mostly in Zurich, Switzerland where most of his family still lives today. Both his parents were keen skiers and excellent academics.

Alex moved stateside at age 16 to join the US Ski & Snowboard training academy in Park City, Utah, next door to his father’s hometown of Salt Lake City. He speaks German and Swiss-German, studied while growing up in Zurich, and often serves as the team’s translator when traveling.

Hailing from Salt Lake City, Marchus H. Hall is an American citizen. But, he has settled permanently in Zurich for a very long time.

Born on August 3, 1959, Marcus Hall will be 62 years old on Feb 2022.

Marcus Hall began his career as a middle and elementary teacher in schools in Alaska, Ecuador, and Italy from 1982 to 1987. From 1994 to 1995, he was a US Fulbright Scholar in Italy. 1997-1998, he worked as a dissertation scholarship, Gladys Delmas Foundation for Venetian Studies, NY, USA.

A year later in 1999, Marcus became a Postdoctoral Fellow of the German Marshall Fund, University of Bologna in Bologna, Italy. From 2000 to 2001, he worked as a Jean Monnet Postdoctoral Fellow, Department of History at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy.

Furthermore, in 2001, Marcus became a postdoctoral fellow at the Swiss Federal Forest/Snow/Landscape-WSL Institute in Birmensdorf, Switzerland. His CV also lists Fellow, Carnegie Council on Ethics and International Affairs, New York, NY in 2003-04, Fellow, Council of American Overseas Research Centers (Smithsonian Institution) in 2004-2005, Associate Researcher, Institute of Environmental Sciences, the University Zurich in 2005-2007, and Assistant Professor (tenure), Department of History, University of Utah, USA (2007-08; Research Professor of Environmental Humanities) from 2006 to 2009.

He then resigned to move his family from Utah to Switzerland in 2009.

From 2009 to 2020, Marcus worked as a Senior Lecturer (Privatdozent, tenured), Institute of Evolutionary Biology & Environmental Studies at the University of Zurich in Switzerland. While from 2021, he has served as a Professor (Titular Professor) in the Department of Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies at the University of Zurich in Switzerland.

Moving on, Marcus holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI. He earned a master’s degree in History of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI, and a BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University, Stanford, CA.

Additionally, Marcus’ research interests include modern environmental history, restoration & reclamation, malaria, parasitism, rescue, warfare & the environment, and conservation at sacred sites. Meet Elena Hall, Alex Hall’s Mom

Alex Hall’s mother was born Elena Conti. He is Italian by nationality.

Reportedly born before 1962, Elena Conti should be at least 59 years old in 2022.

Elena Hall began her career as a research assistant in the Department of Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988. She continued to work until 1989 and became a teaching assistant in the Department of Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison until 1991. From 1991 to 1991 1994, she worked as a research assistant in the Department of Botany at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Additionally, from 1994 to 1995, Elena served as a postdoctoral researcher at Washington State University. Later, he joined the Harvard University Herbaria as a post-doctoral researcher in 1995. Later, Elena moved to Switzerland and took up the position of associate professor at the University of Zurich in 2000. From 2011 to 2017, she was also the Director of the Department of Systematic and Evolutionary Botany, Herbarium, Library, and Botanical Garden of the University of Zurich. Meanwhile, in 2012, he became a full professor at the University of Zurich and still teaches in that role at the university.

Elena holds a Ph.D. in Botany from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He has joined Harvard University Herbaria as a Mercer Post-doctoral Fellow and Washington State University as a Post-doctoral Research Associate.
