It’s been almost 30 years since the hit movie “Clueless” came out, and Alicia Silverstone’s character Cher recently resurfaced for a new generation. During this year’s Super Bowl, an ad for Rakuten had Silverstone recreate a moment from the movie.
“Clueless” shot Silverstone, 46, to A-list fame, but it wasn’t something Silverstone was fully prepared for when it happened, and she says “it didn’t feel comfortable.” She recently opened up about how her rise to fame came after the film came out in 1995.

During a recent interview with Hollywood ReporterSilverstone explained how it felt to suddenly become famous after “Clueless” came out and became a hit.
“When ‘Clueless’ came out, it really changed. I was the girl from ‘Crush,’ then I was an Aerosmith chick, and then, after that, I was Cher,” she said. “It’s very complicated and I don’t think I know how to manage it: I don’t have the foundation, the good tools to deal with it, I’m not prepared for it in any way, shape or form. I really don’t know what’s going on, and it doesn’t feel good.”
A few years and a few acting gigs later, Silverstone decided to step back from acting a bit and pursue other interests.
“I wasn’t happy and what I did was really remove myself a little bit from my acting career and more from my activism,” she explained. “I went to Africa to help elephants, I went to Peru to try to help the rainforest. I found my passion in writing books on healing and health. The book ‘The Kind Diet’ came a little later but that was the beginning of the journey there.”

During this year’s Super Bowl, “Clueless” fans were able to briefly relive the movie in a Rakuten ad. Wearing Cher’s iconic yellow and black plaid blazer and skirt dress, she brought back some nostalgic feelings from the popular teen comedy.

To celebrate the film’s 27th anniversary last year, Silverstone shared a montage of scenes from the film on TikTok. Check out the video HERE. Many of his followers took to the comments section to talk about his iconic character.
“Cher is og ‘that girl,’” wrote one. Another added, “Cher Horowitz is the fictional character who has had the biggest impact on my life.”
Seeing scenes from the film has several followers sharing their love for the film, along with their memories. “This was the last movie I saw while driving before they tore it down. Memories,” said one follower. “Yes….still memorizing this movie. Actually quoted it at work the other day ???,” wrote another.
Silverstone also shared some more nostalgia on her Instagram page with a video of her and “Clueless” star Stacey Dash, who plays her best friend Dionne, recreating a fun moment from the movie.
In another Instagram post, Silverstone shared several photos and videos in tribute to the film. Some of the photos in the carousel also include costar Breckin Meyer. With the caption, “Reunited and it feels so good! ?? Loved getting to know these two friends. It’s been too long! Hope all the gang is there ❤️ #Clueless

Although she doesn’t act like she used to, being a mother and activist takes a lot of time, and she juggles it as best she can.
“It’s not easy, being an activist, mother and actress all at the same time. But I did my best,” he said. “I continue to engage in talking about health and our earth, all of that means a lot to me. The most important thing for me is to be fully present with my child. As for acting, I will continue to find ways to try, to stay there.”
