All That Breathes Trailer: There is no difference between things that breathe.
The visual wonder of All That Breathes, as seen by the teaser, can be described in one word: “interesting”. Shaunak Sen’s documentary about living things and their relationships seems like every shot is perfectly chosen. The unusual theme of the kite in the documentary tries to touch on a broader picture of humanity.
The documentary is described on HBO’s official website as follows:
“The film All That Breathes directed by Shaunak Sen tells the story of two brothers who manage a bird hospital dedicated to saving injured black kites, which are common in the skies of New Delhi, India. The “Kite Brothers” care for thousands of these fascinating animals that fall every day from the smog-filled skies of New Delhi in one of the most densely populated cities in the world, where cows, rats, monkeys, frogs and pigs live side by side with humans. “
It went on to say:
“As environmental toxicity and civic unrest worsen, this family’s relationship with a neglected kite becomes a lyrical record of the city’s widening ecological decline and social fault line.”
All That Breathes, set in Delhi, will almost certainly tackle one of the most pressing topics on the minds of environmentalists in recent years: urban ecological collapse. For years, Delhi has been dominated by pollution, water shortages, and inexplicable negligence, and it has been one of the most discussed subjects in recent years, with many arguing that it is too late for India’s capital to recover. Documentary by Shaunak Sen produced in collaboration with HBO Documentary Films, Submarine Deluxe and Sideshow Release.
On January 22, 2022, the critically acclaimed picture made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. It was awarded the Grand Jury Prize at the World Cinema Documentary Competition there. It was also selected for a special screening area at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, where it earned the Golden Eye award. Following this success, the picture was nominated for an Academy Award.
Nadeem Shehzad and Mohammad Saud, two brothers who run a bird clinic in Wazirabad, Delhi, have cured more than 20,000 raptors in the previous 20 years. Shaunak Sen explained his intention to shoot the brothers:
“I’m drawn to the topic of ecosystem interconnectedness – of which humans are a part, not separate from. How humans and animals share space and become one. It’s an important story.”
