The World Chess Champion, Magnus Carlsen, has broken his silence.
Carlsen recently faced Hans Niemann at the Sinquefield Cup in St. Louis, Missouri.
The chess prodigy released a lengthy statement to Twitter on Monday, September 26.
Magnus Carlsen Accuses Hans Niemann of Cheating!
Carlsen spoke about his recent withdrawal from tournaments and his opponents.
“Dear Chess World, At the Sinquefield Cup 2022, I made an unprecedented professional decision to withdraw from the tournament after the third round match against Hans Niemann. A week later during the Chess Champions Tour, I resigned against Hans Niemann after playing only one move,” his official statement began. “I know my actions have disappointed the chess community. I am disappointed. I want to play chess. I want to continue playing chess at the highest level in the best events. I believe that cheating in chess is a huge problem and an existential threat to the game. I also believe that chess promoters and all who care about purity. From our favorite game we should seriously consider security measures and cheat detection methods for board chess.”

Carlsen said Niemann was invited to the 2022 Sinquefield Cup at the last minute, and while he considered pulling out of the tournament, he ultimately decided to compete.
“I believe that Niemann has cheated more – and more recently – than he has publicly admitted. His progress on the board was incredible, and throughout our matches in the Sinquefield Cup, I had the impression that he was not tense and was completely focused on playing in critical positions, while outplaying me as black in a way that I think only a few players can do. This game contributed to changing my perspective,” claimed Carlsen. “We have to do something about cheating, and for me going forward, I don’t want to play against people who have cheated repeatedly in the past, because I don’t know what they are capable of in the future.”
Carlsen Believes Niemann Has Cheated On Multiple Instances
Carlsen explained he had more to say, but was limited in what he could say.
“So far I have only been able to speak with my actions, and those actions have made it clear that I am not willing to play chess with Niemann. I hope the truth about this matter comes out no matter what,” he concluded.
Niemann (19) is accused of using vibrating anal beads to tell him about winning moves.
The teenager is the lowest ranked of the 10 players in Saint Louis, and has become the first chess player to defeat Carlsen in more than two years.

“I have withdrawn from the tournament. I always enjoy playing at the Saint Louis Chess Club, and hope to return in the future,” he tweeted.
The five-time World Chess Champion also added a video of football coach Jose Mourinho’s speech at the 2020 press conference held after a match in which his team may have lost due to questionable officiating: “I prefer not to speak. If I talk I’m in big trouble… and I don’t want to be in big trouble.”
No further explanation was given, but many interpreted Carlsen’s post as an insinuation that Niemann cheated during the game.
Niemann denies cheating.
“I have never cheated in an over-the-board game. If they want me to be completely naked, I will,” offered Niemann. “I do not care. Because I know I’m clean. You want me to play in a closed box with zero electronic transmission, I don’t care.”
