An alligator with half a snout was captured after residents in a Florida town reported it was terrorizing a local park, authorities said.
Eustacia Kanter was strolling in Wilson’s Land Park in Sanford when she saw an alligator with its top snout missing, revealing its white tongue.
“At first, my brain couldn’t comprehend that his entire upper jaw was gone,” Kanter told Fox 35. “When I realized it, I felt really bad for him.”
His upper jaw was sliced down to his eyeballs for an unknown reason.
Licensed Wildlife Rehabilitator Kim Titterington told WESH that the image of the animal “missing the whole side of your face is shocking.”
“It’s not unusual to see them have damage to their faces, missing limbs, missing tails, maybe part of their jaws, but this is extreme,” he told Fox 35.

Titterington speculated the animal suffered the injury perhaps from a fight with another gator or from being caught in a snare trap, causing its snout to be torn off.
Titterington worries that as the animal gets older it will struggle to feed itself because it won’t be able to catch larger prey and will be vulnerable to attacks.
“When these animals need to eat larger prey and subdue their prey, that ability is over at this point,” Titterington told WESH.
The animal was captured on Thursday night, according to the Miami Herald. Trapper Jerry Flynn managed to catch the animal and take it to a care facility.
“He looks good apart from his muzzle,” he told the Herald. “He’s not starving because he’s fat enough.”
