Aly & AJ Channel The Art Of Chaos In Their New LP: ‘With Love From’

Aly and AJ sit back and let the universe take over!

Nearly two decades removed from their days as Disney darlings, siblings Alyson and AJ Michalka continue to pursue music, letting their lyrical inspiration and sound be influenced by life’s circumstances.

Aly and AJ have spent the last five and a half years recording and releasing synth-laden, ’80s-inspired pop, and they’re only going forward! The duo began a string of records full of pop goodness with 2017’s “Ten Years,” and acknowledged a period of peak creativity with the 2020 compilation title “We Don’t Stop.”

The thought of hanging him was far from Aly and AJ’s mind; the “Potential Breakup Song” singer is gearing up to release new album “With Love From” next week and will embark on a tour in support of the road trip-inspired album.

Aly And AJ Have Worked Hard On Letting Listeners Get To Know Them As Adults

Aly and AJ became famous in middle age. Aly starred in Disney Channel’s millennial favorite, “Phil Of The Future,” and the music video for Aly and AJ’s cover of “Do You Believe In Magic” became a staple in the channel’s rotation.

Two years later, the duo released “Insomniac,” which contained the hit “Potential Breakup Song.” The 2007 single will resonate with Aly and AJ’s fans to the point where the duo released an explicit ‘mature’ version of “Potential Breakup Song” in 2020!

The duo never stopped dancing the following year, “the touch of the beat makes you wake up makes you go out and into the sun.”

‘With Love From’ Is A Gift And Travel Companion To Their Fans

Aly and AJ have not yet come out of their bright era full of positivity; the duo spoke to Numero magazine ahead of “With Love From,” and dished on the record’s influences, which included continuing down the same path as their latest album. Their fans also played a huge role in the record’s trajectory, acting as a major source of inspiration.

As Aly told Numero, “We wanted to make a record that felt like we were making a love letter to our fans across the US and around the world as well. And for whatever reason, these songs feel like songs you’d listen to on a trip across long village…”

He went on to add that the idea featured a bit on their previous records, and the two wanted to continue exploring the concept on “With Love From.”

“But with this record, we delved into that concept, also just stripped away anything that seemed electronic or modern in the instrumentation. We kind of wanted to go back to our roots a little bit in terms of the instrumentation we chose to use. It was important to us that it would reflect well in our live performances and I think we’ve gained our knowledge from touring a lot over the past few years,” said Aly.

AJ admits the element of serendipity that keeps popping up in the duo’s subconscious is laying the groundwork for the new LP, which will be released on March 15.

“It was interesting because when we were making the record and also working on the art for the record,” AJ told the outlet, “traveling to pick up spills and shoot music videos and think about promotional stuff, this storm kept following us, and we were like, ‘This is weird. ‘ When we were writing this record, we thought a lot about the weather. I think this year will also be a crazy year for the weather,” he continued. “So I think our record going up and down tells you how the weather can change and change so quickly actually really tells what this year is going to be like. For us, our lives are really hectic, there are always changes. We’ll be on the road one day and shooting a movie the next. It’s a really crazy industry that we’re in and I think because we’ve split ourselves between acting and music, it can be really hectic.”

‘With Love From’ Tour Begins At The End Of The Month

Aly and AJ’s tour in support of their new album will kick off on Thursday, March 23rd in Oakland, California. They will be on the road until September; the tour ends on September 8th in Los Angeles!

Long time fans will receive a gift! The duo will be performing some remixed versions of their classic songs.

Aly said, “We also brought back some old songs from our past that we tried to turn on their head and rethink the arrangement of them in our set.” (via Numero)
