American Airlines flyer furious at company’s response after drunk passenger vomits all over her luggage

An American Airlines passenger said she was horrified when a traveler threw up all over her bag – but what she really couldn’t stand was the airline’s poor response.

Nicole Schreib was making a second trip from Buffalo to Miami on Nov. 30 when the alleged criminal sat in the seat in front of her, she told Business Insider.

“He slurred his words and could barely speak. This woman should not be on this plane. I’m concerned, honestly,” explained Schreib, who was traveling with her fiancé.

He first met the woman and two others in a bathroom at Laguardia during a stop, he said.

“Two of them were walking arm and arm, stumbling drunk, and ran up to me in the bathroom. It was crazy because it was 7:30 in the morning,” Schreib said. “You don’t expect that at the time.”

After the flight took off, Schreib noticed that the two men sitting with the drunk woman had moved seats.

Nicole Schreib traveled American Airlines on Nov 30.

“Then I realized the stench. I thought, ‘Oh my god he must be sick,'” she continued.

But it wasn’t until the plane landed that Schreib reached for the canvas tote bag and purse she’d kept under the seat in front of her – and realized they were both covered in the woman’s vomit.

“I can’t believe the amount,” laments Schreib, noting that he didn’t take pictures of the mess in his haste to clean it up.

“You kind of freak out when other people’s vomit gets on your stuff.”

When she questioned airline staff about what happened, a flight attendant allegedly told her they “‘can’t do anything about it. It’s a bodily fluid, and we can’t touch it,'” Schreib claimed.

A few days later, Schreib — who describes herself on X as a “lawyer, mother, [and] feminist” – emailed American Airlines, but was disappointed by the company’s lackluster response.

“I’m sorry to hear that your property was damaged by other passengers. While I can certainly understand your frustration with the situation, unintended things can and do happen in public spaces,” the email said, according to Business Insider.

Schreib was traveling to Miami with her fiancé when the incident happened.

“Although it is unfortunate that you are involved in this situation, we cannot be held responsible for the actions of other individuals,” he concluded.

Schreib told the outlet it was “shocking” to get a response “within an hour.”

“But what is more surprising is that they are not responsible for this,” he said.

After several refusals, American Airlines gave Schreib a $50 voucher — which angered him enough that he shared a video of the ordeal with the hashtag #americanairfail.

The 20-second clip is mostly obscured by engine noise, but a woman with long hair and her feet propped against the plane’s wall can be seen.

The airline responded to Schreib’s video by advising him to request a review of his initial claim.

“We strive to provide a positive travel experience for all of our customers, and our team members have reached out to learn more,” American Airlines told The Post in a statement Tuesday morning.

Schreib said he hasn’t heard from them since.

“It’s not about money. It’s about taking some responsibility and really apologizing for what happened,” he told Business Insider.

But Katy Nastro – travel expert at Going.com – believes Americans may be exempt from responsibility.

“When you fly with an airline, you agree to their contract of carriage, which is basically an agreement between you and the airline based on the fact that you bought a ticket,” Nastro told the outlet.

“It is the airline’s responsibility to deal with these unruly passengers during boarding, but it is not clear whether the hygiene factor is guaranteed,” he continued.

“A basic level of cleanliness sure, but if another passenger spills a drink, or in this case gets sick and it invades another passenger’s space, to my knowledge there is no item in the American Airlines contract of carriage that promises anything in return. .”

Schreib, for his part, said he would think twice before traveling on American Airlines in the future — and “will definitely bring a waterproof bag” on all future flights.
