It’s been a few months since Josh Duggar was convicted of receiving and possessing child sexual abuse material and sentenced to 12 plus years in prison. He has since tried to appeal, but the conviction was upheld at the August 7 hearing. Josh’s earliest possible release date is October 2032.
His cousin, Amy Duggar, has now told Daily Mail that Josh shouldn’t be let go. She condemned his “appalling” behavior and called him a “monster”. Amy said she didn’t believe Josh could be “recovered from such an illness” and should remain in prison.
She said, “The child was so innocent and it just breaks my heart to think that someone would want to destroy that in a little child or a child. It breaks my heart, really breaks my heart. So, I fear that day because it is another monster on the loose.”

Amy was asked what she thought of Josh’s wife Anna’s decision to stand by him despite the conviction. The mother of one explained that she thinks Anna believes in Josh’s innocence and doesn’t want anyone’s help right now.
He said, “I think it took a long time to process what had happened, and how many scandals had come out, and how much heartbreaking news he had to deal with. I don’t blame him for not making any kind of movement suddenly, because he might just be stricken with anxiety and very hurt.”
Amy shares that she has made it clear to Anna that she loves her and will help her when she is ready. She shared that she hopes Anna and the kids get “real therapy and counseling,” which will help them move forward and protect themselves.
She added, “But you can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped, and that’s very difficult for me as a mother and someone who knows him, not to lose my mind, because it’s very difficult for me to understand why you wouldn’t take a sudden step.”

Amy confirmed to Daily Mail that she never suspected Josh’s propensity towards child pornography. He shared that his arrest in April 2021 was known to him “like the whole world on national television” and was very shocking news.
He said, “I had sent him a message two weeks before he was arrested. It’s crazy how someone can literally lead a double life. I honestly just cried and cried, and cried some more until there were no tears left. I’m not okay.”
Amy admitted that her cousin’s scandal affected her deeply for “months afterward” and never really left her. The “terrible” news affected his “whole demeanor” because he never imagined such a thing would happen.
She Won’t Let Josh Duggar Near Her Son

Amy shared that even after Josh’s release, there’s “no way” she’ll let him anywhere near her son, Jaxton. However, the former reality star said she couldn’t determine if her cousins and family would do the same.
