TJ Holmes and Amy Robach opened up about their addiction to alcohol in 2023, after their affair scandal went public and shocked the world.
The couple talks about how they keep the buzz going every day of the year, which they call their version of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Holmes and Robach also tallied their monthly alcohol expenses, which ran into thousands of dollars. The couple said they discussed their relationship with alcohol to encourage other alcoholics to do the same reflection.

During a new episode of their “Amy & TJ” podcast, Holmes and Robach reflected on how they’ll use alcohol as a coping mechanism in 2023. The couple admitted that their alcohol consumption last year “surprised” them and called the year their personal version. the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.
Robach and Holmes alluded to the fallout from their affair scandals that year, including the loss of their co-host positions on ABC’s “GMA3.”
He said, “I don’t have a job to go to and I’m away from many friends and family. We are lying low. So what do I do? I drink a lot. More than I ever had. I don’t think I’ve ever gone a full year where I drank every day and that’s 2023 for me.”
Robach explained that his alcohol consumption was not so much “drunk” or “wasted,” but allowed him to maintain a daily buzz and maintain an “elevated state of mind during an anxious year.”
Holmes agrees with his lover and says he realizes that he “needs to check again.” [his] relationship with alcohol.”
The couple went on to reveal how heavy their alcohol intake was before they decided to stop drinking altogether. Robach shared that he averages “over 30 drinks a week,” while Holmes shockingly revealed that he can “easily go through 18 drinks” in a day, much to his girlfriend’s surprise as well.

While they discussed their alcoholism, Holmes and Robach also analyzed how much money they would spend on alcohol each month in 2023 and surprised themselves with their final calculations.
The pair focused their calculations on alcohol they ordered from the delivery app Drizly and receipts from various bars.
For their December totals, Holmes revealed that she and Robach both spent $2,869 on their alcohol intake.
He also added, “This does not include, however, the occasional trip we make to the liquor store.” The couple was silent for a minute as they absorbed the thousands of dollars they might have spent all year on just alcoholic drinks.
The Couple Will Drink All Day

When Robach expressed surprise at Holmes’ high alcohol consumption, he explained how he spread it through his daily routine. Holmes said they were both “huge runners” and often took “runs for fun” that stretched several miles and often ended with them at the bar.
He said, “Now we will run at 8 or 9 in the morning …. and I come back and we drink beer.”
Holmes explained that by lunchtime, he had already had two drinks and then two more in the afternoon. If there’s no errand to run, the TV personality says he’ll “go for a drink.” [his] hands from two in the afternoon until seven, eight, nine, ten at night.”
He added, “So you do the numbers and that’s one hour of drinking for another eight hours — or so — but that’s another eight hours of drinking in hand, plus the four I drank during the day.”
Although the number of drinks shared by Holmes and Robach seems high when considering them as bottles, the pair say they have different ideas of what a drink is. Thus, one drink is either a beer, a glass of wine, or half an ounce of liquor, so Holmes’ “18 drinks” would be better understood as 18 heavy pours.

Holmes and Robach told their podcast listeners that they made their podcast discussion about their relationship with alcohol because they wanted to motivate other alcoholics to face their relationship with alcohol.
They revealed that they faced a dry January, which was not a first for Holmes but a new thing for Robach. He shared that he would never have done the challenge if Holmes hadn’t given him the courage to do it.
Robach said, “I don’t know that I’m going to feel comfortable or — honestly this might sound crazy — but I don’t know if I’m going to feel brave enough or brave enough to say, ‘I’m 100 percent going cold turkey this month,'” if you don’t say, ‘I’m doing it and we can do it together.’”
