No Big Gain For Andreea Dragoi

Despite being dubbed “The World’s Sexiest Swimmer” and “The Olivia Dunne of the Pool,” Dragoi found herself unable to capitalize on her name, image or likeness (NONE) due to visa regulations, highlighting the challenges faced by athletes navigating the complex landscape of sponsorship and endorsement opportunities .

Due to F-1 visa regulations, San Jose State University swimmers face limitations in pursuing endorsements, as international students are seemingly prohibited from profiting from their appearance while residing in the U.S. Although international athletes can engage in group marketing efforts managed by third parties, promoting products freely on social media risks visa cancellation. While students can participate in campaigns abroad, they are restricted from signing with talent agencies, leaving Dragoi solely responsible for organizing endorsements outside the US

Rescue Duty

“I did everything myself,” Dragoi shared with SwimSwam. “It made me learn a lot from the process and how to manage everything. Everyone thinks I have [management] team behind me at this point, and I was like, ‘No.'”

To support himself, Dragoi commits 20 hours per week to his role as a lifeguard at San Jose State, a position that is allowed for international students and beneficial to the campus community. However, despite her dedication, she struggles to buy a plane ticket to reunite with her mother in Europe.
