Angel Carter delivered a touching tribute to celebrate the birthday of her twin brother, Aaron Carter, who died a year ago, while also spreading awareness about mental health.
Angel has previously blamed her brother’s battle with drugs for their father’s unexpected death and a difficult childhood with a plea for further investigation into some of the tragic events that took place before his painful death.
Aaron Carter’s Sister Recalls Childhood Struggles
The 35-year-old celebrated his heavenly twin’s birthday in the most emotional way possible by giving context to his battle with substance abuse. She uploaded a childhood photo of Aaron wearing a happy smile, accompanied by the caption:
“Remember this boy on his birthday today. He is an energetic, lively, happy and loving child who deserves to live life to the fullest. We grew up in unique circumstances surrounded by constant dysfunction and trauma. Unfortunately, it’s a cycle that repeats itself among generations.”
Angel acknowledged the outstanding efforts of “On Our Sleeves,” a children’s mental health organization, adding that there must be education for change to occur.
“1 in 5 children live with a mental illness, and 50% of lifetime mental illness is present before the age of 14. We can all feel that there is a teen mental health crisis, and we all know someone who has been affected. But the stigma remains.” continued mental health enthusiasts.
He concluded the tribute by stating that Aaron took care of the family and will continue to inspire their efforts to help children with mental health problems, adding:
“You can contribute by dedicating your time to research, foster education, and foster healthy discussion in your home. Happy Birthday to my twins. I will always love you. ??.”
Fans and well-wishers flocked to his Instagram comments section to show sympathy, encourage Angel, and wish Aaron a happy birthday. Kate Steinberg also wished Angel and Aaron a happy birthday in the comments.
Someone didn’t forget to remind Angel that Aaron is by her side as they wrote, “Happy birthday to you both, I’m sure Aaron is by your side every moment of your life and so proud of what a big sister he is. do to help people and break the cycle.”
Earlier that year, Angel organized a funeral to honor the musician’s birthday and brought his ashes home. He explained that the decision came from the need to protect Aaron, stating that:
“To lose a twin, it was an out-of-body experience. He is a part of me. And it was like when he died, I had this feeling, ‘I have to take him home. I have to bring him home and protect him.”
The Blast confirmed his plans to bury his ashes after a July 28 memorial service at Forest Lawn, adding that he can’t trust anyone not to exploit his brother. Angel also shared that their father’s death, caused by a heart attack, caused Aaron to become addicted to drugs and alcohol.
Despite undergoing rehab, where she was diagnosed with schizophrenia and multiple personality disorder, the “Leave It Up To Me” singer’s condition did not improve, and she even posted videos of herself doing drugs online.
Aaron wasn’t the only Angel sibling to die of drug abuse; her sister, Leslie, also lost her life to a drug overdose. Angel shared that “their childhood was filled with emotional abuse, dysfunction and addiction, leading them to join On Our Sleeves.
‘I Want Candy’ Star’s Son Files Wrongful Death Suit
The Carter family suspects foul play in Aaron’s death and has since filed a wrongful-death lawsuit on behalf of her two-year-old son, Princeton Lyric Carter.
In the lawsuit, Princeton alleges that medical and pharmacy professionals prescribed and dispensed dangerous drugs that altered Aaron’s mental health and judgment; therefore, they should be responsible for his departure.
The Blast shared that in the filing, Aaron’s doctor is accused of prescribing mind-altering drugs such as Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, and Alprazolam, adding to his problems. Regarding his death, which occurred as a result of suffocation from inhalation of compressed difluoroethane and ingestion of Xanax, his mother and his partner suspected foul play.
They charged security operatives to investigate a possible drug deal on the night of his death that may have led to an overdose because they allegedly found a text message from someone demanding $800 for an undisclosed substance.
