Angry drivers rage at climate demonstrators blocking Washington DC traffic

Angry drivers in Washington, DC, were filmed cursing climate activists and throwing their signs during a protest that blocked traffic on a busy highway over the weekend.

Saturday’s climate change protest was the third such rally held by the group in the capital in a week.

“I want to go to work! I want to go to work!” a driver could be heard shouting as he plowed through protesters sitting across the road, ripping banners from their hands and throwing them into the air as he went.

A screaming female cab driver added, “You don’t give a–k!

“Get the f–k out of here! We have to go to f–king work! We have children to feed!”

Other drivers tried to reason with the protesters, who only replied that extreme measures had to be taken to save the planet for future generations.

The police eventually arrived and warned the protesters to leave the highway before arresting them all in zip-lock handcuffs.

The protest was organized by the group Declare an Emergency, which aims to “disrupt the status quo” until President Biden issues a climate emergency and takes drastic measures to address climate change, according to its website.

“For us, this is the best way to honor Dr. King’s legacy and continue his tradition of disruptive, nonviolent civil disobedience!” the group wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, along with footage from the incident.

It was the third such protest since the State of Emergency to wreak havoc on DC streets in the past week — each of which appeared to involve the same protesters, though they were repeatedly arrested.

On Wednesday, activists wearing neon life jackets descended on Interstate 395 in DC and sat in all three lanes carrying banners.

A driver managed to force his way through by pushing the protester aside, muttering “You’re holding me back. I got a good job and s–t,” while other drivers plead to them that there might be someone having an emergency stuck in traffic.

The holdup lasted nearly an hour as police dealt with a man who had his hands stuck to the pavement. Protesters were again arrested, footage showed.

A few days earlier, during Monday morning rush hour, many of the same individuals were sitting across the sidewalk in downtown DC.

“I’m upset, but rationally, just take a picture and send it to your boss,” one protester said, laughing to others as angry commuters shouted that they had to go to work.

“Yeah. I’m my own boss, so I have to send it to myself,” said another protester.

Protesters were arrested again at that time.

The Metropolitan Police did not respond to the Post’s request for comment Tuesday.

The incident is the latest such protest — which is not uncommon across Europe — to make headlines in the United States.

Protesters at the entrance to the Burning Man festival in Nevada on Sunday caused a mile-long backlog after they blocked the road to the event.

Police eventually rammed the barricades with their trucks before arresting the protesters at gunpoint.
