Angus Cloud Smoked Pot On ‘Euphoria’ Set, Was Sent To Rehab By HBO

Angus Cloud’s loved ones have spoken out about the entertainer’s tragic death and revealed stunning details about his struggle.

Two months after the “Euphoria” star’s family announced his death, the Alameda County Coroner revealed the 25-year-old’s cause of death as an accidental overdose. A deadly combination of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and benzodiazepine was found in the beloved star system.

These ingredients caused the Oakland native to die of acute intoxication, a sad end for an actor on the rise in his day. However, family and friends of the TV personality recently revealed that the former waitress had struggled with addiction long before her death.

Cloud became a fan favorite in 2019 following his phenomenal portrayal of Fezco, a drug dealer with a moral compass. Despite her low profile, the late actress became an overnight success thanks to her endearing charm in HBO’s hit series “Euphoria.”

Just as the Oakland native wowed millions with his acting skills, his charisma swept over those around him. “Euphoria” creator Sam Levinson became emotional while reflecting on the life of the deceased in an honest interview for the first time.

According to the producer, he was so impressed with the young actor that he was unwilling to kill off his character in the first season. The father of one admitted to PEOPLE:

“Angus was supposed to die at the end of the first season, but I loved him so much, He was perfect…I think part of the problem was that sometimes I would put the actors before the show. So I was like, ‘Okay, I can’t kill him because then what does he expect?’”

Fezco was hit in the head in the show’s second season, leaving the character with a giant scar on his scalp. However, the injury was not fake, as the late “North Hollywood” actor had a near-death experience at the age of 15 when he fell into a construction pit and suffered mild brain damage.

The accident led to the actor’s first encounter with opioids after he was given painkillers to combat his post-surgery headaches. Reflecting on her son’s ordeal, the late mother, Lisa Cloud, revealed: “The drug use was most likely related to his need to relieve his pain. They are fierce.”

He continued, “There is [other] things that might have worked, but he never did. And when you’re in so much pain, you want relief.” Instead of innocently seeking relief from his pain, the 25-year-old became addicted to the substance and even took it to work.

Angus Cloud Smoke Pot On Set Behind Show Producer’s Backyard

In the first week of his shoot, the late TV personality allowed his best friend, Lilita, to be on set. He recounted the couple’s weed session after the performer finished his first scene with Zendaya.

“I was like, ‘Bro, we can’t,'” he recalled. “But he was like, ‘It’s cool. The cast members are cool as long as the rude runners don’t see us.'” However, Levinson denied knowing about Cloud’s drug use behind the scenes.

“I’ll kick him off the set if he smokes weed,” the show’s creator declared, while the Oakland mom claimed she never noticed her son using anything other than marijuana. “He had this terrible feeling, and he wasn’t himself, and I now realize that’s because he was on drugs,” Lisa explained.

Unfortunately, the parents didn’t realize their son was in dire need of help until Levinson suggested rehabilitation. The producer had a deep conversation with Cloud in his office, telling the 25-year-old that he needed to get sober to participate in the second season of “Euphoria.”

“I looked in his eyes and knew he wasn’t well,” Levinson said, his eyes misty. “At the same time, I’ve been in these situations where you try to clean someone up. And I just said to him, ‘I love working with you, and we’ve planned this amazing season and stuff, but I need you to wake up because I can count on you.'”

HBO footed the bill for his rehabilitation, and the TV personality was placed on a 30-day inpatient program. After returning to the set, his treatment continued as an outpatient for an additional three months. However, Levinson stated he could always sense that sobriety was not something Cloud wanted for himself.

“It gets complicated because the world can want it for you. But he didn’t want to. It’s just the self-destructive side of addiction, and it trumps everything else. But you can’t give up on people. I won’t let anyone give up on him,” said the 38-year-old.

Unfortunately, the Oakland native started using drugs again midway through the season, and Levinson advised him to return to rehab. As a former addict, the older entertainer understands the struggles of the deceased and refuses to kill off his character for the second time on the show.

However, Levinson became stricter with Cloud, preventing him from appearing on the set unwittingly. After the filming of the second season of “Euphoria” ends in February 2022, the third intervention to save the actress is held at the producer’s house.

Recalling the four-hour conversation, the 38-year-old said Cloud declined his offer, claiming he was fine. “I could tell, at that time, that he was not interested. He won’t do anything, and yes, he doesn’t want to,” the father of one admitted.
