When I wrote Ladies Coupe, it was called a feminist novel. It bothers me because of what we’re talking about here. Feminism never came with applause. It’s like an insulting jab. I wonder. So, for me, feminism is something – as the right of every woman to be a woman and not feel inferior for it. Often, women are made to feel that you have to be a certain type of person, then you are a good woman.
Let’s identify who we are first. What demands does our sex have on us? Biologically, there are differences. Unfortunately, we don’t admit it. It’s not just the male gaze, the way men perceive women. Feminism is about a woman being comfortable with a woman.
Nair has portrayed the best of women in his work at all times. He’s not a fan of categorization though. He also has a National Film Award Winning script to his credit. Nair’s works are influenced by the vernacular space, as he says, it pleases and attracts him to see, what happens in the vernacular literary space and also most of his characters are drawn from rural settings.

Views on Censorship
He felt censorship of any kind was unjustified and it was about the larger majority kneeling to the stronger minority. He also feels it rips the originality and essence from one’s work.
