In a recent interview with People magazine, Cardwell’s husband, Eldridge Toney, shared intimate details about her final moments. The couple married behind closed doors in March after the reality star was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma in January.
Eldridge, who stood by his wife throughout her cancer journey and was there when she died, recalled his emotional experience. She shared that Cardwell’s family came together to support her in her final moments, stating: “Everyone was crying and scared because we all knew what happened. I did my best to stay calm for him. I stroked his hair, held his hand, and told him it was going to be okay.”
He added: “I held his hand when he took his last breath.” During the interview, the widower expressed his commitment to honor Cardwell’s dying wish that his daughters know their mother and promised to always “do right” by them.
“The day before he passed, we talked and said goodbye. Her dying wish was for her daughters to grow up knowing who their mother was. And I promise I’ll do right by those girls always. I will spend my life doing right by Anna and those girls,” shared Eldridge.
He Filmed His Cancer Battle To Raise Awareness
During the interview, Toney revealed that Cardwell had been taping an episode for the upcoming season of her family’s WeTV reality show, “Mama June: Family Crisis” before her tragic death.
“The shoot was something Anna wanted to do,” shared the widower. “He wanted to raise awareness of his rare form of cancer because there is still so much unknown about it and it is so rare.”
Additionally, family members also shared at his funeral that filming his last days was done because “that’s what he wanted.” Crew members for the reality series were also at the funeral as they were considered “friends and family.” However, the funeral itself was not recorded for the show.
