Anthony Anderson Has THIS To Say About Ozempic Controversy In Hollywood

Anthony Anderson opens up about the Ozempic weight loss trend that’s sweeping Hollywood and social media.

This drug has long been known to treat Type 2 diabetes but was recently approved to manage weight gain issues, causing a stir

This doesn’t seem to sit well with Anderson, who was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes more than twenty years ago, as he believes that the next trend is adversely affecting those like him who actually need treatment for their health, not weight loss, by creating a shortage . .

The 52-year-old comedian, active in diabetes awareness for years, opened up about the Ozempic Controversy while appearing at the annual Big Game Giving Event in Paradise Valley, Arizona, on Saturday, February 11.

She spoke to PEOPLE about her hope that the trend will end, adding, “I will say this, it creates a shortage for those of us who need the medicine we need and not for weight loss, but for our health.”

Many, like Anderson, have turned to Ozempic for their Type 2 diabetes. However, the drug has now been approved as Wegovy because it only treats obesity and promotes weight loss.

According to the FDA’s website, both drugs are “currently in short supply,” and Dr. Caroline Apovian, co-director of the Center for Weight Management and Wellness at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, told the magazine that the trend is “taking away from diabetics.”

Apovian sees the trend as worrying and isn’t concerned about celebrities needing to lose weight. Instead, he emphasized that those who are “dying of obesity” and “will die of obesity” should be concerned. He went on to state, “We have a life-saving drug — and the American public who really needs it can’t get it.”

Anderson, an ambassador for pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk’s “Get Real About Diabetes” campaign, has never shied away from talking about her condition.

She once opened up about her diabetes journey, saying she feels great and is focused on “just bringing awareness to all this disease that affects all of us.” In a conversation with Healthline about his partnership with Novo Nordisk, Anderson revealed how he copes with his condition, which he believes is not a “death sentence.”

The “Guys with Kids” actor assured readers that while having type 2 diabetes greatly increases the risk of heart disease, one can also “live comfortably and go about your daily life.”

He shared, “It changed my life. It slowed me down a little bit just so I could figure out what it was, what step I needed to take next. And I want to know what to do to stay healthy, live with this disease, and not die from it.”

The “Black-ish” star was able to do that through lifestyle changes by “eating better, being a little more active, and [being] be aware of what I put in my body.” Although it has been more than two decades since her diagnosis, she has now figured out a basic daily routine that works for her.

The “Me, Me & Irene” actress explained, “When I wake up in the morning, I try to get all my complex carbs in during the day, so I’m not too overwhelmed by them at night when I’m sleeping.” He added that he often goes to the gym and takes everything “one step at a time, in moderation” until it becomes a regular pattern.

As reported, Kent spoke of his frustration with those, especially celebrities, who abuse the treatment for non-medical purposes. He warns, “Stop taking it for weight loss; that’s enough,” adding that there is a need for change in Hollywood, starting with the older generation like himself in Hollywood.

The 32-year-old also believes the Ozempic trend is adding pressure to those in Hollywood with body image issues, perpetuating unhealthy habits. He emphasized, “I think there are a lot of things that need to change, and it starts with us, and there are times when I roll my eyes and say, ‘F**king do better, all of us.'”
