Anu Malik is the daughter of veteran music composer, Sardar Malik and his wife, Kausar Jahan Malik.
He has two brothers named Daboo Malik (music director, composer, singer, and actor) and Abu Malik (film score composer). Anu Malik is married to Anju Malik, and the couple has two daughters named Ada Malik and Anmol Malik (singer).
He has three nephews and one niece. Armaan Malik (singer) and Amaal Mallik (music director) are the children of Daboo Malik and his wife, Jyothi Malik.
Aadar Malik and Kasheish Malik were sons of Abu Malik.
Career
Anu Malik made his debut as a music composer with the film “Hunterwali 77” in 1980.
He has composed several commercially successful songs for the film. He is known for his use of Tabla in his compositions. He finally got his breakthrough after 16 years when he composed music for the film, “Baazigar (1993).”
In addition, he has composed music for several films such as “Baazigar,” “Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994),” “Ishq (1997), “Baadshah (1999),” “Josh (2000),” “Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega (2000),” and “Fiza (2000).
Controversy
- There was a verbal dispute between singer Mika Singh and him on the set of the reality show, where Mika had come to promote his film “Loot.”
- He has been accused of plagiarizing music for movies like Murder, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Deewane Hue Pagal, Hmeshaa, Baazigar, Imtehaan, etc.
- In the 1990s, singer Alisha Chinai alleged that Anu Malik sexually harassed her.
- During the #MeToo Movement in 2019, Anu Malik was accused of sexually harassing singers such as Sona Mohapatra, Shweta Pandit and Caralisa Monteiro. Sona Mohapatra called him a ‘serial predator.’ Alisha Chinai also gave her support to the singer and said, “Every word spoken and written about Anu Malik is true. I support all women who finally speak up. May they find peace and closure in their lives. Although, Malik denied all the allegations but had to leave the reality show, ‘Indian Idol’ due to public backlash.
- In October 2019, another popular Indian playback singer, Neha Bhasin also accused Malik of indecent behavior. Responding to Sona Mohapatra’s string of tweets criticizing the composer, Bhasin tweeted his allegations against Malik.
- On August 2, 2021, he started trending on Twitter after Israeli gymnast Artem Dolgopyat won Israel’s first Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics. As per the ritual, Israel’s national anthem Hatikvah was played, and soon, it was realized that the music of the song had been imitated by Anu Malik in the song Mera Mulk Mera Desh from the movie Diljale (1996).
