Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday appeared less interested in discussing the controversial closing of a Brooklyn high school to temporarily house immigrants because the incident did not occur in her constituency.
“It’s not in my district,” Ocasio-Cortez told Fox Business reporter Hillary Vaughn when asked if she was OK with thousands of James Madison High School students being forced to stay home this week so immigrants could camp out in their school gym.
“I think it’s very clear here that what’s most important is that we identify the right facilities for these people,” the New York Democrat, a member of the “Squad of far-left congressional lawmakers, finally agreed.
“I don’t expect this to be a long-term solution, it shouldn’t be a long-term solution,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Nearly 2,000 migrants were herded into a Brooklyn school gym Tuesday afternoon as local officials worried that tents set up for them at Floyd Bennett Field would collapse due to rain and wind from the strong storm.

The migrants were reportedly brought back to the tent by 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, but James Madison’s 3,700 students were still forced to study remotely that day.
While Ocasio-Cortez is correct that neither Floyd Bennet Field nor James Madison High School are in New York’s 14th Congressional District, which she has represented since 2019, social media users point out that progressive pols often amplify issues far beyond her Bronx. -Queen’s territory.

The host of the “Kennedy Saves the World” podcast, Kennedy argued that the immigrant crisis stems from immigration policies promoted by people like Ocasio-Cortez and that he should take “ownership” of the resulting problem.
“Wow, no answer!” he said in response to Ocasio-Cortez’s statement during an interview with Fox Business.
“Yeah, it’s not my district, you guys, so I don’t have to worry about anything,” Kennedy added.
“This is his policy and that’s the problem, are people like the AOC not taking ownership of their philosophy, which is to bankrupt cities across the country and people in New York, people in Chicago never really have to think about the immigration crisis, because for them it’s is a theory. Well, now it really is.”
