Patriarch Todd was sentenced to 12 years in prison plus 16 months of probation, while his wife Julie received a lesser sentence of seven years with 16 months of probation as well. As you know, the couple known for their hit show, “Chrisleys Knows Best” was convicted in June.

The Chrisleys were indicted on 11 counts of tax evasion, bank and wire fraud and conspiracy in 2019 but were not convicted until almost three years later in June. They were found guilty of tax evasion and fraud through a multi-year scheme involving banks.

As we reported, 53-year-old Todd and his 49-year-old wife are accused of submitting false documents to banks when applying for loans, according to prosecutors. Parents, in particular, also present false credit reports and bank statements when trying to rent a home in California.

To make matters worse, the conservative couple set up a production company known as 7C’s Productions, which acted as a loan company for all the money they made through their popular reality show. They failed to file tax returns on time for three years and even falsified numbers even though taxes had been paid.

Despite overwhelming evidence and a jury finding Todd and Julie guilty in June, they maintained their innocence and appealed before sentencing.

According to a sentencing memorandum obtained by WSBTV, prosecutors wrote, “The seriousness of Chrisley’s crime cannot be understated. After they defrauded a community bank out of tens of millions of dollars, they hid millions of dollars from the IRS, all while watching television to brag about how much they spent on designer clothes. And when they learn that they are being investigated for the crime, they involve their own family members and friends to obstruct justice.”

The document claims Todd is set to face between 17 and 22 years while Julie could be given 10 to 13 years. However, it is clear that they were treated with mercy, and their sentences were commuted.

The final decision on Todd and Julie’s sentences came hours after their accountant Peter Tarantino received his sentence for complicity in their fraudulent financial crimes. As we reported, Tarantino got 36 months in prison from a federal judge in Atlanta.

However, during sentencing, Assistant US Attorney Annalize Peters questioned the motive behind Taratino’s decision to help the Chrisleys commit their crimes, given that he was only paid around $40,000 for his work, a regular salary.

He concluded that the accountant was trapped in working for such a popular and charming couple and as a result, he got in over his head.

Tarantino’s lawyer, Attorney Daniel Griffin, asked that he be sentenced to 18 months in prison, while prosecutors sought 41 months in prison. However, the judge settled for 36 months, given that he had a clean career and no criminal history.
