Career
Archana holds the position of associate professor and head of unit in the government. medical college in Gujarat. Later, she joined her husband at Anand Hospital, Lalsot as an obstetrician and gynaecologist.
Death
Archana Sharma died on March 30, 2022 in Dausa, Rajasthan after committing suicide. He is accused of murdering a twenty-two-year-old woman, Asha Bairwa. Archana operated on Asha and successfully gave birth, but after some time, Asha died of PPH (postpartum haemorrhage). After Asha’s death, her family took her body home, but after a few hours, they brought the body back to the hospital. A Bharatiya Janata Party leader came with his family and started gathering people and police in front of the hospital. The police filed an FIR against Archana under Section 302 and charged her for the murder. Archana is scared and depressed because of the FIR, and she commits suicide. He left a suicide note in which he wrote ‘Don’t bother the innocent doctor.’ He also added,
I love my husband and children very much. Please do not disturb them after my death. I didn’t do anything wrong, didn’t kill anyone. PPH is a known complication. Stop bothering the doctor so much for this. My death may prove my innocence. DO NOT HARASS AN INNOCENT DOCTOR. please Love you. Don’t let my children feel the absence of their mother.”
Archana Sharma’s suicide note
A video posted by her husband on social media brought the case to public attention. In the video, he explains the whole story and demands justice for his wife. In the video, he said,
There should be action against the police. How did they file a Section 302 (murder) case against him? There should be a law to stop harassing doctors and demanding money from them. My wife is dead but what about the other innocent doctors?”
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot expressed grief over Archana’s death through a Twitter post. He also ordered the removal of the SP of Dausa district, Anil Kumar, and the suspension of the SHO (station house officer). In the tweet, he wrote,
The suicide of Dr Archana Sharma is very sad. We consider doctors as gods. To save the patient’s life, every doctor tries his best, but if something goes wrong, it is not right to blame the doctor.”
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) also demanded justice for Archana and held a rally.
