Arizona State University cancels event with Rep. Rashida Tlaib, a controversial member of the House squad who publicly defended calls for genocide against Jews.
Tlaib was criticized by his colleagues in the US House of Representatives earlier this month for defending Hamas and calling for the destruction of the Jewish state.
The talk was organized by the Arizona Palestine Network, a non-campus organization.
Tlaib had been scheduled to speak Friday at the group’s “Palestine is an American Issue” event, which was canceled because the group did not follow proper procedures, according to an ASU spokesperson.
“The event featuring Congressman Tlaib was planned and produced by a group not affiliated with ASU and was organized outside of ASU policy and procedure. Accordingly, the event will not take place today at the ASU Tempe campus,” the spokesperson told Fox News.
The university’s decision was “completely unacceptable,” the Arizona Palestine Network said in their own statement on Facebook.
“Rashida Tlaib must be heard on campus as the only member of the Palestinian Congress planning to speak on American issues at this event. ASU cannot claim to hold freedom of speech as a principle while denying the voice of Palestinians on campus. Canceling this event puts the university in direct contradiction to its charter as a university ‘not measured by who it excludes, but by whom it includes and how they succeed,’ they said.
