Arkansas squatters claiming to be sovereign citizens refuse to move RV parked on private property

Squatters have staked their claim to land in Arkansas, claiming that they are part of a group of sovereign citizens known to have engaged in violent confrontations with law enforcement.

In a press release, Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell said that the investigation into the squat began in August 2023.

Authorities said they were alerted to the couple moving into an RV and “enclosed property” owned by someone else.

The couple allegedly built permanent structures, dug septic lines, installed solar panels and began storing large amounts of water.

Sheriff Russell said that law enforcement confronted the couple about the squatting case and served several eviction notices.

Despite threatening the couple with an eviction notice, the couple refused to leave their RV setup.

The two individuals said they were members of a sovereign people’s group known as the Moorish National Republic.

Police said the two provided law enforcement with false legal documents that claimed the land was government property and said they could not be forced to leave.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, people in the Moorish National Republic have come into conflict with federal and state authorities because of their refusal to obey government laws and regulations.

On Thursday, Jan 25, a large group of law enforcement officers executed a search warrant on the slum and arrested the two individuals without incident.

Authorities said the couple initially refused to identify themselves, but the male suspect identified himself as Saleem Yosiyah YisraEl.

Authorities said they found several vehicles on the property with “fictitious license plates.”

Along with the illegal vehicle, authorities found evidence of illegal fraud the couple had committed from the RV.

The scam involved the Postal Service and several thousand dollars of Iraqi currency, police said.

Authorities concluded that the FBI was investigating the alleged documentation of fraud and cybercrime.
